A classic solution is to write about your writers block. I agree that you need rest periodically but a writer doesn't just think about writing, a writer writes. Nothing more, nothing less.

Quite frankly I think that coming here to Y!A and posting Qs & As is a good solution. At least you are writing something. You will get ideas and make associations and even if it doesn't feel like you are making progress on your work at least you are practising your craft.

There's something about writing that it doesn't really come from your concious brain, it comes from your fingers. Once you get a few words down, the rest just fall into place without a lot of concious thought.

Any writing practice is good writing practice.

i'm writing a novel right now and i get writers block all the time. i have several methods that i'll share with you because they really work.

1st:
if you can't focus on the story because you're thinking about something else, write about that something. (i'm 15 & the homecoming dance is coming up, so i write about whatever romance scene is playing through my head.) eventually you'll hit a roadblock in that jotting story, and then you go back to your story & look at it again. usually you can come up with something. BETTER YET maybe you'll come up with a new idea for your story.

2nd:
i listen to music when i can't think because it's very inspiring. i like CASCADA because their song is at least half instromental, so i don't get distracted by the lyrics. any classical music is good too because it's music w/out words to distract you. listen to music while you write or are sitting in front of the computer screen.

3rd:
as a teen, i find that i write the best, or come up with ideas when i'm half asleep. COMPLETELY HONEST, if i have a huge essay or something to write for school, i'll set my alarm clock for 2:22am & i'll wake up & write, when i'm done, i go back to sleep. there is actually a theroy behind this, your brain is the most active after 2+ hrs of REM sleep, so if you wake up in the middle of your sleeping period, you're brain is already very active.

4th:
physical activity also stimulates the brain, so if you take a jog around the block, you can actually jumpstart your brain.

i hope this helps you with your writer's block, and if you need more help, email me your subject that you're writing on & i'll be happy to assist you in thinking of ideas.

I had that block once, but I took a gander at the Yellow Pages and found all sorts of ideas. My block was total but I read about air conditioning and computers, I had a great idea for an article.
Writers' Blocks are simply lack of ideas. The Yellow pages gives you all sorts of ideas, talent is up to you.

The best advice i can give, is to take a break. Grab your iPod, CD player or whatever you own and go for a nice walk. listen to the music and just let thoughts flood your mind. if that doesn't work for you, try to watch some TV. I find that when I'm not focusing on my writings, ideas seem to just come to me. just relax, the thoughts will come :)

Try putting it aside and working on something else for a while. Sometimes your subconcious just needs to work out problems on its own. Alternatively, just sit down and force yourself to write. Don't focus on where it's going, just get the words down.

find something that inspires you. some one that inspires you,

get away from the papers and go horseback riding, or hiking,
you can take a tape recorder with you and if you have any great ideas you can still get them out. go camping free your mind, meditate in the mountains.
