The media is not a source you should believe. They only report what they think viewers want to hear and will raise their ratings. As for "Rich Oil Industry" start riding a bike, growing your own food, living like people did in the 1700's and you won't need to worry about the oil industry.

The United States is the worlds top consumer of fossil fuel (that's oil to you and me and everyone else) therefore the desperate need for it. In order to keep the economy "safe" and avoid some "lunatic" to overprice oil barrels is why I guess "our" government takes matters into their own hands. No, I don't believe what the media says. I interpret what I hear from them with my own judgement. Funny how around, was it June or July (when Bush visited the Mexican State of Quintana Roo and Mexican president Felipe Calderon), he was persuading Calderon to privatize Mexico's oil refineries (Mexico is a big oil pruducer, yet I wonder why the people are still poor.) In the last month, there have been about 14 (more or less, most likely less) attacks on Mexico's oil refineries. Coincidence, I think nah. So stay tuned on the media, let's say what they say about that.

Do you mean the oil rich middle east? The ones that are buying up America? Including part of our stock market, large corporations, including Dunkin Donuts?! This scares me almost as much as the huge debt we owe to China! Charlie Gibson, World News Tonight. Guess Charlie slipped this past the media patrol!

It's not just America and it's not just oil. Whenever the public does not want to take the time to figure out the truth of issues, they rely on their favorite "authority" (political party, public figure or celebrity, news source, union, etc). They are easily victimized by propaganda . That is why advertising pays off and the most money spent for political ads can often guarantee a win.

If you have a retirement plan that invests in the stock market, you are a part owner of those "rich" oil companies.
Oil is the life blood of our civilization. The oil industry is wealthy because the owners(us) demand a return on our investment.

If we wanted to invade a country for oil, we would not have gone all the way to Iraq to do it. We would have marched through Mexico (a third of their population is already in the US, so why not) and on through to Venezuala (Chavez is a nut and the world would love to see him gone). Much cheaper and easier. If the oil industry where running things, that what would have happened.

For the same reason people without money cannot ever get elected to the House, Senate or Presidency. Or even a Supreme Court seat.

Most aren't blinded by it. Those in power have a financial interest in it, and they jerk up the prices all the time just to let you know who is in control!

What are we supposed to do, ride our bikes to work? Drilling in Alaska seemed to be a viable idea until the left stopped it.
