Personally I think this is stupied! They def. should be charged with attmepted murder because it clearly states that if more then "4" people jump 1 person then its attempeted murder and they are considered a "gang". That Al guy is an idiot who is just trying to get in our history books. If it wasnt for him this wouldnt be a big think! What is the colors were switched?I think we all know what would happen.

Well it's like this. You missed a whole lot of bla, bla, bla, and a really good tap dance from Mr. Rev. Aloysius Sharpton. Oh and I can't forget the mystical Rev. Jesse Jackson to. These two, with the help of the media, had all of the chicken Little's yelling all of Jena is a racist community in Louisiana. But to tell you that I know every thing that happened in Jena would be an injustice for every one involved in this case. We are not the jury, nor or we the judge. These threads on the Internet are why a lot of people can't get a fair trial in the first place, and then these are the same people that complain after some one gets convicted. So my suggestion would be to wait and see. But if you want to listen to a bunch of they said, go ahead. I hope you can syfer all of the bull Sh*t from whats real, I can't.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070922/ap_on_re_us/a_place_called_jena;_ylt=Aj3MeV_lNz_yDNYScl4exrhH2ocA this explains it best. Basicallyt he media hijacked a small town and made a huge deal about a little situation. I will briefly explain what this yahoo article says:
1. The tree was not a 'white only tree' this has been confirmed by a black teacher. After the nooses were hung, it was a big joke, blacks and whites were playing on the nooses putting their heads in them and laughing together.. like amazingly enough... they didnt have a problem with race.
2. The comment about if blacks could be in that tree apparently happened up to a year before the rest of these incidents.
3. It was an all white Jury, but that was because there are only 10 blacks old enough to be on a jury in the area, and blacks were randomly chosen to appear, but none chose to show up (again theres only 10, chances are they had jobs to go to and other things this is not an attack on them for not going.)
4. The student charged as an adult seems to have a violent history, but also got good grades.
5. Blacks and whites in the community agree that they don't want the media and the rest of the country wasting their time, when they don't even know the truth.
From me: This was made an issue by the media. If it wasn't for the extraordinary tolerance of protesters, who had read the lies printed by our media, this could have been a riot. I mean from the first stories that came out blacks had every right to be outraged, but now that the truth comes out it seems more and more like it must have been a slow media week, so they decided to pick up this story, and then make it more interesting by making the nooses seem like it had something to do with what happened, and ignoring the part about blacks and whites playing on the ropes like they were a toy, and then to add insult to injury convince people that these kids actually risked 32 years in jail. Notes on the justice system: First almost all states allow sentences to be reduced by half for good behavior so they were staring 15 years in the face, still a long time, but they can also reduce that time down some more and often do.Also prosecutors always start with high charges and then negotiate down to lesser charges, so its likely that if the media had stayed out of it these students would have also received a very small amount of time if any. Finally, I think the African Americans and whites who protested this should actually be thanked for doing so with dignity and restraint, the media lied, and left you no choice but to go, but in the face of of all of this you remained repectful and peaceful.

You all know the Jena 6 story, but what you will evidently not hear in the news, is that yesterday here in the city of Norfolk VA, seven black high school aged kids beat a 13 year old white male randomly walking down the street while it was video taped. The local TV news (Wavy 10) got hold of the video and played it sunday night, but there is NO mention of it anywhere today. Wavy 10 has the video posted, but no story. Was this listed as a hate crime? Uh.... no. Was this listed as a race crime? Uh.... no. It was listed as "gang violence." Double standard? I am thinking so.

Everyone needs to read The JENA NEWSPAPER... there it states the facts, the media and Jackson/Sharpton are hyping this up. The question was a joke, according the principal who answered the question and every single teen that was there. Those kids DID get more than 3 days suspension and got sent to a special school for a month. REMEMBER the principal wanted expulsion but the school board overruled it. Also in the article it says the Bell ( the one who is still in jail) hit Baker FROM BEHIND and knocked him out and that is when 6 others stomped his head while he layed on the ground unconscious. You people will believe anything you hear from the news, remember they want a story.
The Jena 6 are not martyrs for injustice, FACE THE FACTS: they are criminals, Even if Justin Baker did call him names, its a word, it may not be nice, but that does not give anyone the freedom to JUMP someone! Bell is getting such a serious sentence because he has two battery charges, a sexual assault charge and vandalising a car AND he was the frist to hit Justin. And as for being tried as an adult, he should have because after being in trouble so much, I think he knows right from wrong by NOW!

All the negative comments posted on here are obviously biased. We can only know whats really going on by what the media gives. So from whats been covered? Yes I believe this whole thing is racially charged and yes I do believe that the fight stemmed from racial tension. To thoses who posted you can be serious if you think attempted murder is right. Black Thursday was held to acknowledge the "Jena 6". All I have to say to the poster is do your research if you want to know more.

I am so glad I looked at the unbiased cnn report about the Jena six. One of the few networks that even bothered to go in-depth about the charges against the six boys. I can tell all of you that say that those who support the Jena six want them to get off scott free that those statements are not true.
What we want is for all parties involved in this mess to be treated fairly the charges against the Jena six are excessive.
Now it is unclear how many of them even laid a hand on the victim.
What alarms me is that one of the Jena six saw Justin being beaten from a distance and he ended up being charged with attempted murder.
That makes me question if the some of the others were witnesses to what happened and are now charged.
What amazed me the most was that the prosecution put on the stand as witnesses against Michael Bell were one or all the three students that hung the nooses on the tree?
They are not even credible witnesses they clearly have a bias.
In Jena and other places it's looked at more severely if the assault comes from one race of people versus another.
I do applaud the principal that tried but was not allowed to enforce the suspension of the three students that hung the nooses but he was overruled by the superindent.
That would have calmed down a lot of racial tension by showing the town that the school would not tolerate that type of behavior.
The world is watching us and they have always watched how we get along with each other.
United we stand divided we fall this is not something that we should be divided on it goes beyond race it's about judicial fairness.
The charges are excessive and the kids if they were all involved should be charged with assault as minors anything else is excessive.
The others should face charges as well no adult should touch a child and get away with it.
The noose thing should have resulted in suspension or the kids being expelled this is all common sense.

What if things were reversed. What if 6 white students beat one black student to near death. Civil rights activists would still be protesting in Jena, the only difference is the signs they hold would say "SEND THE JENA 6 TO JAIL FOR LIFE"

It's about 6 black teenagers jumping a white dude. I've followed this story for a couple of days now. those boys have a lot of supporters. what irks me is is that there's no indication of them (Jena 6) being innocent and being railroaded. all i can say is, i do hope the get fair due process and fair trial. 6 guys jumping one guy is at least a felony assault. personally, i don't think they tried to kill him. but they nevertheless committed a felony. a felony has been committed. if you do the crime, you do the time, i don't care what race you are. There's a guy named Travis Hayes. He spent ten years at Angola for a crime he didn't commit. Hayes was exonerated by DNA evidence earlier this year. I wonder if he had as many supporters as Jena 6

white kids hung nooses- a hateful act, they got suspended.
black kids beat up white kid- an illegal act, assault.
black kids charged with attempted murder- a ridiculous charge, assault should be the charge.
Charges were reduced for four of the kids.
I don't know if people are protesting to reduce the charges or to drop the charges. They shouldn't drop the charges because you can't go around beating people up (no matter what color you are or the reason) They should reduce the charges to assault.
When will people realize that violence begets violence and revenge solves nothing? Everyone was wrong in this situation.
