OMG -- you have no idea!! My mother-in-law has been a thorn in my side for 25 years......when my husband (well, we were dating of course at the time) decided it was "time" to bring me to visit his parents I was not to bring my son (I was married before and had a baby boy).....we had to "ease" her into that knowledge. AND THEN he said "I know you like beer and my dad will probably offer you one but tell him no thank you" --- so we went and.........I'm kind of a brat and I don't like people TELLING me what to do...he offered me a beer and I said "heck yes and thank you!!" Then I also discussed the fact that I had a son. Thing I was thinking at the time was -- if they can't accept me for who I am NOW, they aren't going to ever accept me. She never did and STILL is upset that we "lived together" -- 25 years ago before we got married!!! His brother is a total *** -- so I have a lot of in-law problems. His brother is my worst enemy (I never had an enemy before -- it was painful until I finally said FY and don't be anywhere close to me) --- then I told my husband I wasn't going over there anymore to get the cold shoulder and stuff. NOW they are like "well, you don't have to be a stranger (becase of family things I have HAD to be around her) --- my father-in-law and I will probably always be beer drinking buddies -- HA HA..........he's cool -- they're in their 80s. Oh you have no idea!!! Don't let her walk on you. DON'T ALLOW IT and also DON'T WAIT 25 YEARS to make it stop (whatever it is) because that's a long time to suffer this kind of thing. I'm so glad because my to-be daughters-in-law are my best friends and I love them to pieces. They send me messages on myspace and stuff just to say they love me too and that is the way it is supposed to be!!!

Well I was lucky twice over. I know of a few people that were not so lucky. It depends on how you take criticism. I would Ignore it and we got along swimmingly.
