For most of my life and I don't know why, I've tended to think negatively about many things.

Worries tend to huge concerns and for example, when starting new jobs or schools, I tend to think that no one is going to like me, and for some reason, it materializes and comes true.

Now it's beginning to affect me at my new job, and at first I was really beginning to love it! Now, the negative thinking is starting to take over and I can see how its impacting and influencing how my co-workers see me.

At first I know they liked me, now, due to these thoughts, I think their minds might be changing.

How is someone supposed to change thinking styles such as this, especially when they've lived with it for so long?

It's affecting the job that I love!

There is a lot to be said about the saying what we fear we create There is a great deal of truth to this. We create our own realities through our mobs and actions which will affect everything happening around us. We can combat negative thoughts by not sitting idly by. There is work one has to do however; with daily effort these negative thoughts can be eliminated. Your first step is to recognize your thought pattern. Become aware of the negative thoughts that flow within your mind. Secondly make a list of positive thoughts. Carry this list with you at all times. Read this list when you find yourself thinking negative things. Replace a specific negative thought with a positive one. Also ask yourself “What am I feeling and why am I feeling this way”. Let go of all grievances and grudges that can fuel negative thought patterns and prohibit positive thoughts and change. Be mindful of the outside circumstances that encourage negative thoughts and avoid these circumstances. Prepare yourself with positive thoughts before you enter unavoidable negative situations. Do something nice for yourself every single day. Soon you will notice marked changes in your thoughts toward yourself especially when you do things for other people. Lastly appreciate who you are and the good things in your life. Allow yourself to feel joy and peace and eventually the negative thoughts will disappear and your life will transform in ways one can only imagine. You have nothing to lose but everything good to gain.

There is a saying that "your thought pattern becomes your reality."
This is so true! Just like you are experiencing...such feelings of fear and such negative thinking has become your reality.
This is very hard to break!!! But here is how you will have to do it! EVERY time a negative thought comes into your head you HAVE to immediatly stop yourself in mid thought and change that thought. Even if you don't totally believe it...and you won't cause you believe the negative...tell yourself the posative. (the Truth) ie...(negative) nobody will like me at school, I won't have any friends, everyone will make fun of me.
(posative) I can't wait to see who I am going to meet, I know I will make new friends bcause I am so personable and friendly, they won't laugh at me, they will like me...etc.
They say it takes 21 days to break an old habit and start a new one. Start right away!!! This will change not so much how others see you, cause people only see what you let them see. If you think negatively then you act that way and people will see the negative and nobody likes to be around negative.
If you change the way you think and CHOOSE to act as such you will notice people behaving differant toward you...not because all of a sudden you got around the right people, but you have made yourself someone who people want to be around and like.
This is hard but it can be done!!! Good luck!

It's calleed cognative thinking. It means you have to be more aware of when you are thinking negatively. when you catch yourself being negative, find at least 3 reasons that your thinking is wrong or positive thoughts instead. this will help you at least realize your negative thoughts and try to change them. it takes a lot of practice and is very frustrating. I've been doing it for 5 years and i still have problems getting the negative thoughts out and the good thoughts in.

You could research Tony Robbins. He talks a lot about "breaking patterns". In one story he mentioned a woman who loved her husband, but often complained about him. Every time she started to complain he would fling some water out of his bottle at her. She asked why he did that. He wouldn't say. After the third time, she was laughing so hard, she forgot about her husband. So Tony asked, "What were you saying about your husband?" She was still laughing and forgot all about what she was saying.

So, what we need for you is a little pattern-breaker-upper.

Here's one out of thin air. It depends on your job, of course, but every time you start to feel negative, crumple up a piece of paper and take a shot at the waste basket.

Or, throw your car keys up in the air and try to catch them as low to the ground as possible.

Anything to break the pattern.

Zig Ziglar is an inspirational speaker who has tapes which are highly recommended. I have also heard tapes of "The Power of Positive Thinking" by Norman Vincent Peale, which is wonderful. Keep listening, consistently. Think about how you can bring their methods into practice in your life. Good luck.

Your mind is not your friend... Negative thoughts will ruin you for sure. When they creep in, just say NO!. Not today. Think on things that are noteworthy. Honest and good. For me, when I start thinking negative thoughts, I stop it and think on my rescue dogs - how pure and wonderful they are. How far they've come. I think on my cat - how good she is. Despite the dogs whom she hates. I think on my son who is just now growing out of his jackass teen years... Hum. We will see. Good things. Like the butterfly I saw today. The smell of my just landered sheets. Anything, that brings you comfort. Dwell on those things. After awhile, your thoughts will become positive. Life, more peaceful.
