During the Industrial Revolution, large factories and cites developed. There was a large urban immigration, and people (often entire families) began to work alongside each other in factories. This created unsafe and unhealthy conditions in many areas, but also created important social consequences. The rich and the poor often lived in the same buildings. The poor often became envious and began to push for equal rights (ie voting) after discovering that they worked harder than the rich.
