I always try to keep my bedroom tidy but I'm on tour at the moment and whenever I come home I dump a bag on my bedroom floor, and any letters and books, clothes, accessories and general bits of paper, end up all over my dressing table, and floor (because I'll lay it all out on my bed with the intention of sorting it then shove it all on my floor for sleep). There MUST be a system to avoid getting a build-up of crap and I know the easy solution is to tidy as I go but whenever I'm at home it's only for a few days before I'm off touring again and I'd rather not spend my time hanging clothes and filing!
Help!

Oh and I've tried an "In Tray" but it's just a box stuffed to the brim with paper and stuff I can't be bothered to sort. Grr.

I do sympathise and know the problem. We've been married for 48 years and are both "dumpers". Don't know if you know the story of Hercules and the stables which hadn't been cleaned out for 100 years, but our place is just like that!
You get to the point where you keep looking at all the boxes and bags of accumulated paper work, jars of sauces which you mean to try but never get around to it, clothes which you start to sort for charity then someone knocks at the door or someone wants a cup of tea or the grass needs cutting or the cats need feeding and then the phone rings.............. nothing ever gets finished and it just sits there glaring at you for weeks/months/years and it's more than twice as bad when there are two of you gradually adding to the chaos.
So I "run away" and lock myself in with the computer and YA while himself falls asleep in front of the telly!
Be warned, in 50 years, this could be you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Get a spare bedroom - I have a very tidy bedroom , I dont dare let people look in the spare room though!! Its the place I have to wade through to find stuff I need to iron and wear!!

So what are you touring with? Anything good or that we recognise?

I know of no equipment... it's just the system of DOING IT !

I also travel for work frequently, and it's a pain to come home and find stacks of mail, have a ton of laundry, and pockets of receipts and change...

I now simple dump my clothes in a net-bag... strip, shower, dump my change into mayo-jars. I grab a beer, do the mail, FILE my receipts and bills, and then go start my laundry.

You've GOT to spend the time... or it doesn't get done, and you get MORE depressed / upset looking at the mess.

Your other option... hire a maid.

i replaced into sooo approximately to jot down carpet. yet no, it is a KiwiJoey question so it likely demands a calculator in some way. (I actual love examining the somewhat some annoyed solutions to a pair of your questions by employing the way.. Ha. people get so riled up while some thing demands user-friendly arithmetic. Ahem.) Umm... approximately sixteen metres squared?? i think of? I failed estimation of lengths in 12 months 7 so i'm probably incorrect...

How about a big pretty basket that you dump everything into as you come through the door. Scroll down this screen for ideas:

You can also pick up large plastic/fiberglass storage boxes as places such as WalMart.
