This whole Jena 6 topic on Answers has conjured up a lot of ignorant comments from white people on here. I dont even think of it as a race issue, but just outright injustice. But whites still seem to be insensitive to the ongoing struggle to be equal for blacks.
In my opinion anyways.....

So....it wasnt against the law for the white students to bring a gun to the previous fight? Or for the police to totally disregard those students actions?
Why are people leaving such a huge fact out?
And I never said that the black students should'nt be punished, or that they were not wrong.

Carly, are you proud of yourself for using a grown-up word? Black folk can read and write too! We can even spell and pull rarely used vocabulary words out of our a$$es.
You guys take a simple question and blow it out of proportion.
For the record, I apologize for generalizing "all" white people...I should have asked...
Has anyone else noticed how clueless and/or racist SOME white people still are?

Beachy.....lmao! What's funny is that I have lived in S.E. Washington DC my entire life!!!! Killing each other off everyday...get your statistics together. Yes, there is a lot of black on black crime here, but no more than anywhere else. They call DC chocolate city for a reason....because mostly blacks live here, so crime in DC is going to look like we are taking each other out, but it's no different than the senseless murders of people of all races in different states.
We are looked at like this because of the geographical difference of our city and the racial divide. DC is very small, I roller blade from one end of the city to the other in an hour and a half, and that's with traffic!

I've don't think I've ever read so many racist posts from White Y!A-ers in all my life. It's all coming out now, the racism. Look, nooses hung over a tree imply EXACTLY what they're meant to imply, considering the history of the noose in North American history. They're meant to shame and intimidate. The students who hung them up knew exactly what they were doing, and they should have been prosecuted under hate crime laws. Just as much as the Jena 6 are being prosecuted for the beating of the White student.
Of course it's not okay for a White kid to be lying in a hospital within an inch of his life. I'm Black, and I didn't think his beating was justified, but no matter - because of my color, I must be uneducated, one-sided, stupid, and a criminal. Couldn't be farther from the truth. I am a human being, just like you. And for those of you from the US, I am an American, just like you.
The ugly posts made on Y!A express feelings that many of you have ALWAYS had about us, and now here's your golden opportunity to show your true colors. I'm just so glad I don't live in the South - I'm biracial, so I can just imagine how much fun it would be for my kind to live down there, let alone if both of my parents were Black.
I hope the guy recovers. As for some of you, I hope you recover some kind of basic human decency. This is 2007, not 1957. And for the White people on here who serve as voices of reason, thank you for being kind.

Yes, I'd have to agree with Yvonne for the most part. I've known a lot of people that come from foreign countries, of different races, different religions, etc. The only people I have known to really be racist are the blacks (not all blacks-I have known so many wonderful black men and women) or should I say African-Americans, because those I met who came directly from Africa were nothing but sweet. I feel that they are at fault for perpetuating those Ideas of racism. They are always complaining about this and that, yet look at how they treat one another and others. I've even heard them discussing how they keep having kids while on welfare so that whites have to pay. Then they teach their children to behave as they do, sustaining those ideas of hate. The rudest/meanest people I have come across have been black. What are we supposed to think? Oh it's ok, he's allowed to act like that because he's black.
I treat others how they treat me, regardless of race or what not. Everyone I know is the same way. We don't care what color you are or where you are from. If you are nice, we will be nice...hard worker, thoughtful, we will respect you. Now I'm originally from the northeast, so I don't know how bad the whites are down south. I've been down there, but everyone has been for the most part nothing but kind-could be that I am white.
Now we live on the border with Mexico and I have to say that everyone down here is just incredibly friendly. So many people helped us try and find a place to stay after hearing it mentioned that we were having trouble.
And I'm sorry, there is an incredible difference in posting something offensive and beating someone close to the brink of death. Punishment should be set accordingly regardless of who you are.
Now why don't we discuss all those rich people who get away with everything....

If that's your opinion, you're welcome to it, but just because you (or I) believe something is unfair...doesn't make it racist. And, so you're aware...this issue has also "conjured up a lot of ignorant comments from" black people here who feel that hanging a noose is equal to beating and kicking someone into unconsciousness. Do you feel that way? The person (or people) who hung nooses were hateful... immature...and offensive!!! But is that in any way equal to the type of beating that took place...NO!!!
So how exactly is this situation unjust in your opinion? I'd like you to explain that more fully so I can offer a different perspective on the specific elements of this situation that you feel are unjust. And, what IS a just outcome to this situation based on what you know about the attacks/fights/etc?
Based on the way you've worded your question...I have to surmise that you are like most of the protesters I saw interviewed... you've turned off your brain...and decided to let their emotions do all of the thinking and talking on this issue?
Taking an illogical...and purely emotional position like yours does more harm to advancing the goal of racial equality than I'm guessing you'll ever understand!!
As for your updated questions about the gun and the and the police's response....I urge you to go back and re-read the facts that have been reported...because you're also leaving things out....or...and I hope this isn't the case... knowingly misrepresenting the facts. You wouldn't do that just to make your point would you?
Racism is real...and it exists everywhere...especially within the judicial system of this country. The details as I've read them...from numerous sources...do not support your position. And crying racism every time a black person is punished for a transgression is intellectually dishonest and devoid of thought.
I urge you to separate opinions and emotions from evidence and facts....one is admissible in court...the other leads mean-spirited, harshly-worded questions like yours.
For now you see in a mirror dimly...only then shall you see fully.
**Edit**
Why bother asking a question in such a negative, hateful way if your not prepared for negative, hateful responses?? You have a racially biased opinion...so do others...why is it that you feel so superior in your chosen brand of hatred??

Equality is a tricky thing. It kind of implies that when everyone is equal then we will all be the same. That doens't happen for anyone. For instance, old and young, male and female, professionals, religions, etc. Who will decide when things are equal. It's impossible. Affirmative action way back in the 70's gave many blacks oppurtunities over more qualified caucasians. Many whites moaned about it, but they didn't start a revolutuion. Ever notice how blacks who are successful tend to support mostly the black culture? I can understand their intentions but what about equality. As for Jena 6 why was it 6 against 1. Is that equal? Our best solution is to do what the founder's intended. Encourage, teach, and protect the the TRUE christian faith so there is brotherly love.

Not all white people are like that. To put it as such....is to do the same thing to whites, as they are doing to blacks.
Everyone knows it's a difficult situation with the Jena 6. What the white kids did was certainly wrong...there is not doubt about it. However, commiting a crime in retaliation for what happened, isn't right either.
I know I wasn't there, I couldn't know what thoose kids went through on either side of this. However, I do know what it means to be discriminated against based on my color. I happen to be white, and I've gotten the "if you are white, you must be an ignorant, inbreed, redneck and a racist"....which btw..is just as ignorant and racist as someone white using the "n" word. Sorry, I don't believe that the whole "minorities can't be racist" arguement has any merit whatsoever. It just doesn't. That arguement has been beaten time after time...and it always will be.
Regardless of what happens though....we need to make sure that people period who commit crimes...go to prison for them. People who are falsley accused....we get them out of prison. We need to make sure that we leave this racist crap out the door though. It's time for people of all backrounds....to stop hating on one another. We are all human.....therefor we are all the same race. We may have different ethnic backrounds....but that is heritage, not race.
I just wish everyone would get it.......
I don't know what might have been said on here in the topic....but for thoose who spread ignorance and hate...they will get their's in the end. Karma is a *****...and she will bite them hard.

Yes and it's very tragic... I wouldn't relate it to Jena 6 though but Yes there is a great deal of ignorance out there... But what comes around, goes around... Everyone is capable of racism... I've been chased out of houses for being the only white person in the neighborhood... But I've also had people from the neighborhood back then beat up some people - in my defense - because I was the only white person in the neighborhood... Everyone can surprise you. Race has very little to do with who you are as an individual. It's a part of you of course but your spirit is a far superior judge of how you interact with the world around you... Let's judge people on their actions not on race.

Thank you for your correction. Not all white people are racist. I wouldn't even say most white people are. The ignorant ones just stand out.
A lot of conservative people lack empathy. They simply cannot put themselves in the place of others and I think that's why they think there is no longer discrimination based on race.

Isn't it the blacks who call this a racist situation? If it were 6 whites beating a black kid, I'll bet you would find it racist. You people know how to play that race card don't you? But I will say in DC they are killing each other off everyday, so apparently "race" isn't an issue there, crack is.
