They don't have very long life spans. It was probably just its time. Don't worry I doubt it was anything you did.

hmmm... there are so many possibilities here:
1. old age (maybe it just her time to go).
2. The chameleon might be on hunger strike (did you gave her the same diet for a long time? -they are tend to get bored easily.. vary her diet by changing the food: fruit fly, house fly, cricket -i do not recommend wax worms or any kind of worms are they are high in fat).
3. Stress -due to change in environment- Chameleon are extremely well in masking their sickness... the next time your chameleon close her eyes during the day or have a sunken eye, immediately go to the vet.. don't wait for a week)
#3 is the most likely cause.. it could be the temperature change, the humidity change, or maybe you put her in a glass aquarium or something like that.. without a detailed descriptions of where, what, and how you take care of her, it's impossible to answer.

I feel for you and your situation. First chameleons do not have a very long life span (roughly 5-7 years). If you bought your chameleon full grown there is no telling how old she was. Second they do not deal well with stress and unfortunately it does not take much to stress them out at all. Even slight changes in temperature, lighting, and physical contact can really do a number on them. What were you feeding it, how often were you misting it, were you giving it uva/uvb light, and what was the temperature in the cage?

She could have had an underlying illness and the stress made it worse (you had no way of knowing this if that was the case). Also, how old was she? Many chameleons don't live as long as other lizard species. If it was a female, then she could have been egg-bound--a common and serious problem. Without taking her to a reptile vet, there's no way of knowing for sure. They have very specific heat and lighting needs, so do you know for sure all of her temps/lights were good? Current UVB bulb and all?

this is the EXACT same thing that happened to me... what kind did you have? It could be stress or maybe not the right food. I had a Fischer's chameleon and i finally found out they like insects that fly instead of crikets before he died.

Some lizards do starve themselves to death because they're stressed, but if you didn't change anything in their environment, moving doesn't count. It may have to do with her lifespan, their approximate lifespan is 5-7 years, maybe she died of old age, i doubt it was your fault.

Animals don't live forever, and while it's possible a trip to the vet might've saved her, they aren't exactly the easiest animals to diagnose. Don't blame yourself.
