perhaps a little wd-40 lube sprayed into the base where the stick goes into the steering column would do it...

cheers!

Well you need a new multi function switch. thats why it's stuck on .. my suggestion is untill you can get a new one installed do this .. open the trunck and remove the Left Rear turn signal bulb and it will stop making that clicking sound.. then if your stopped for no turn signals explain to the officer what happened and ask for time to have it repaired.. that doesn't mean drive like always and never repair it.. this is just a suggestion to stop the noise till you can get to the shop.
also you CAN get a ticket for the blinker being on all the time so wiegh your options and take the one that suits you best. but do have it repaired soon

It sounds like the indicator stalk has broken, once they go it usally means you need to replace it as trying to fix it isn't possible. They are quite easy to change, theres normally a few screws holding the steering shroud on and a couple holding the indicator stalk on. Your biggest problem is getting hold of one given the age and type of car but you might get lucky at a scrapy etc.

Look in the fuse panel for a round silver thing. You can feel it clicking when the signal is on. Pull it out and replace it

turn it off by hand. the reason it wont go back to the off position is the spring that is in your steering column broke that turns it off. you will need to take the car to the mechanic to get it fixed as they need to pull the steering wheel off to fix it. when you get it done tell them to do the other spring too..

SOUNDS LIKE THE MULTI FUNCTION SWITCH IS BAD.

TRY FINDING AN INDEPENDENT SHOP INSTEAD OF THE DEALER OR A CHAIN STORE BECAUSE YOU WILL BE OVERALL MORE PLEASED WITH THE FINDINGS AND THE SERVICE.
