i have 26 first cousins

I have 9 on my mother's side.
My father is adopted when he was only 3. The state of Virginia broke the family apart because my biological grandfather died and the family was dirt poor. So we truly don't know his entire family but we do know that he had 7 brothers/sisters and 6 half brothers/sisters from where his mother remarried after my biological grandfather died. Of the family that we have met, most of them also have a huge family. One sister had 7 children, another had 5 children. So I can just image what the rest of the family is like.
If I had to guess, I would guess about 40 first cousins. Considering the size of my father's family, at least the family that we have met, that figure is actually being a little conservative. My family is huge.
