Am I going to grow up to be a failure?

I don't think I have a strong future.

Brief profile: I'm a sophomore in Houston, TX. I'm one of those nice guys you see around HS, ask a lot of Q's, kinda smart, might do something stupid/weird once in a while, and I'm just one of those laid-pack people.

I don't participate in any clubs/teams. I grew up without knowledge of any field of interests, so as a result, other people are doing something fun after school, while I'm not.

Colleges do look to see if you do participate a lot, to see if you're 'well-rounded' right?

I'm kinda smart. Usually lot of A's and some B's. I do feel dumber than other though, in my upper level classes.

I don't know what college I want, or what kind I want.

I have no developed talents or skills right now.

I don't have any close friends, because I have no special interests in common with others.

I feel like I'm a failure at this point. Am I?

when you quit trying is the only time you TRULY fail.

wrong. colleges don't really care what groups your in after school. its your SAT score and grades in school that concern them.

most people I know don't know what they want to do, and even go to school for things they have no idea how to do, or even like to do.

don't be surprised at how hard that decision is. No answer will seem right.
Just find a field that interests you a bit, has a wide range (like computers and networking for example) and has many options in the future of your career.

I don't let the one smarter than me feel bad, I befriend them and keep them, close. I see it as they can teach me a few tricks

anyway, right now your in highschool, NO company that is right for your future will hire you right now. And this is NORMAL.

you? failure? naw, you still have a lot of choices to make. just make a goal and stick to it.

Hi.
How are you doing today?
First of all stop this self-pity.
You are definitely not a failure, in fact you are such a successful person...look at your caliber..don't you feel proud of yourself.
I understand your quagmire and believe me, just identifying your problem and charting out a regime will help you get back on your track to a full life.
It is clear that you are an intellectual who has paid more attention to academics than other things .
Give yourself credit on that, because there a lot of people out there who envy you and would give an eye and a tooth to have your A's and B's on their progress report.
But you need to understand that extra curricular activities also play an important role in grooming an individual.
Do not look at them as mere sport, but look at the values they teach you....team spirit, fortitude, goal-orientedness, leadership qualities, time management theories, perseverence...above all the healthy feeling of being fit and ruddy to accentuate your intellect.
So take the first step to join a club, like a tennis club or any thing thats near your place...Do not worry , it is never to late...
Or if you have any specific interests you could chart out a plan to pursue it...it could even be something creative, like poetry writing, elocution, painting, carving or even jogging..as simple as that...
Seek newer horizons,...they say
"Life is short, Art is long"...
So you do not want to miss out on this great opportunity of experiencing life to its fullest.
Believe me, channelizing your energies this way will in fact help you regain your focus in life and also help you improve your academics besides endowing you with the sense of leading a healthy and full life.
Do not forget, that it is important that you follow a healthy diet, concentrate on loading up on your proteins...they keep you going throughout the day.
As regards to the choice of your school, talk to your peers about it. Get suggestions from your seniors...Do not feel awkward to ask...Once you start the conversation you ll forget you even had the apprehensions to start with. Also to get specific information you can approach your professors/ teachers. They will only be glad to help you out...and will even appreciate your interests and the efforts you are taking in that direction.
Take a step at a time, do not expect to learn overnight...but hang in there...I am sure you will do it.
And somewhere down the lane, when you look back, you will realize that in the process of making a conscious effort to experiencing life to its fullest , you have learnt enriching lessons, made true friends and become a better person.
I hope this helped.
Take care.

Your only a failure if you see yourself as being one. Read some great books on self-esteem, appreciate all the good things about yourself and know that as you grow, you'll change and many interests will come to you without your even having to look for them. Take time to love yourself as love has to begin with self first. Stop being so down on yourself and start appreciating all that you are and all that you will be.

The power of life is in your tongue, that which you speak will be!!! Change your attitude or the answer is most definitely yes.
