Because I know I've memorized plenty of songs. I even remember songs that I used to sing when I was a little kid!

Your long term memory is ENDLESS! :) Your short term memory on the other hand only memorizes things for a few seconds to a few minutes then it either goes on to your long term memory or is lost! So you can memorize as many songs as you can find and as long as it goes to your long term memory it will be there forever! (the longer it's there the harder the recall will be, but it will still be there!)
