Probably possible, but has no real value so scientist would not really explore this. All it would take is to turn off that gene. Simple, but why?

Some drugs can apparently inhibit its production. I doubt they would be taken internally because melanin is closely related to some hormones and the drugs would have side effects. Just a guess.
