The orig Pledge, written by Francis Bellamy, a Baptist Minister in 1892, was:
"I pledge allegiance to my flag and the Republic for which it stands--one nation indivisible--with liberty and justice for all."

The original pledge was changed in 1924 and then the 31 word pledge we say today was instituted in June 1954 at the urgining of President Eisenhower.

I have always known it to be "One Nation Under God" and
I still like it that way. It seems there was never that big of
a deal about it until Bush became President.
If one day they change the pledge and take God out of it,
that's the way it goes. However, they can't change my belief
in God and that's it.

I remember also being in school and hearing the Mcarthur speech about "Old soldiers never die..they just fade away"...and I remember the school going to the movies to see a movie where Jesus came on the radio and talked to everybody. Those were the days !!!!!! Anyone remember the name of it?PS...I think it was just "One nation..indivisible etc

The original pledge was "one nation, under God, indivisible; with liberty and justice for all" That is the way I learned it in first grade back in 1950. If there was an earlier version, I do not know it. Please, original poster, if you know an earlier version, do share it.

I wouldn't change a word of it. I was born and raised under God and that's the way I want my grandchildren to know the Pledge of Alligence!

Revert back to the original. The way it is is unconstitutional.
Or we could change it to "One Nation Under Canada" and be truthful about the matter. I like "In U.S. We Trust" too but then, we'd have to make our government be a tad more honest to do that.

My own opinion..... it really makes no difference to me. I'm good with either. I can't believe that so many are not aware that the phrase "under God" was added at a later date!

Im not sure about the original version of it, but i dont like the One Nation Under God version.
For two reasons.
"One Nation Under God"--Im athiest and dont believe in god.
And, America pisses me off.
Im an american, but i dont like the way America is doing things.

Go back to the original, get religion out of the schools and out of politics in other words out of government.
