I certainly do remember those. And those rods and papers they used, then the neurtalizer. The stench stayed on your hair even after rinsing it well! Remember you couldn't wash your hair for a few days otherwise the perm would wash out.
The house used to reek from that smell

Remember? That is something I will never forget. I had a perm and was allergic to the stuff. I looked like someone had poured a pan of hot oil over my head! I was covered in blisters and it was 2 weeks of medical treatment before I was allowed to touch my hair with a brush. Never again. x

No, in Australia we didn't have such products, but I can remember all the words to the Gillete razor ads and Sorbent toilet tissue .. both from the 50's and I can sing the Swallows and Ariels biscuit ad from 1948 .. so the old grey matter is still working

sure do - my mom used to give me a perm about every 3 or 4 months until i got old enough to decide on my own what i wanted to do with my hair. and my aunt was a beautician - she always cut my hair and i swear i think she only knew one cut

Yes I do...we have come along way when it comes to perms and the smell of them.
