Our BRILLIANT Founding Fathers understood human nature. They were moral and ethical beyond belief. They amazed the WORLD by refusing to set themselves up as KINGS. They knew that power corrupts, so to protect the citizens of this new nation from tyranny, they gave us a Constitution and a Bill of Rights that severely limits the power of the Federal Government and places power in the hands of the PEOPLE.
They created a Constitutional Republic with democratically elected representatives.
There are no TRUE democracies anywhere because it is obvious that a simple democracy CANNOT succeed.
They were too smart to doom us to that fate.

Immediately after that, power grabbing greedy politicians and lawyers of dubious character went to work creating specious arguments in an on-going attempt to shift power from the people back to the central government. They are still arguing for increased Federal bureaucracies to take your power and shift it to their control.
Don't fall for it. Look at the Bill of Rights. Never vote for anyone who wants to take away those rights.
Money is power. Never vote for anyone who wants to raise taxes, take away guns, limit property rights, restrict religious freedom, or restrict free speech.
Power in the hands of the citizen IS the source of America's greatness. Keep following the Constitution. Learn, know and understand YOUR rights and the LIMITS on the powers of the Federal Government.
You frequently hear people say "I've got a right..." . You need to understand if they even know what they are talking about when they say that.

Checks and Balances, that is the key. The founding fathers wanted a government that would equal out and give more power to society. There have been some bumps in this system but overall they figured that as long as one branch of the government did not get too powerful everything could be kept in moderation.

They also wanted a gov. that worked "slow". They wanted to make sure that the rules of congress allowed for debate and discussion. "The great compromise" as it is now called is probably the main reason that our federal system works better than most. The great compromise allowed for a dual bodied legislature......IE the Senate, and The House Of Representatives. Thus each state was represented by Population (House), and equally by state (Senate, two senators per state)

And lastly, Giving the supreme court justices "life" terms on the bench meant that the justices didn't ever have to worry about public opinion or re-election, they have the freedom to do what they think is right by the constitution without the possibility of reprisal.....

A big question! And there are a lot of good opinions on the subject.

In my opinion, we were extremely lucky to have a revolution led by people who were not power-mad and did not declare themselves the ruling party forever, and their leader as President-For-Life.

The counter-argument would be, was our Constitution really that successful? After all, our worst war was a Civil War where 600 to 800,000 Americans died before we made a change in our Constitution to correct the situation.

The population was much smaller in earlier centuries and the government worked for a smaller number of people. Notice, though, that the larger population of the past century has created more societal problems, and government has become less efficient.

OK, let's talk about growth, from it's birth to the end of WW II, US growth was the same as all other civilized countries in the world. But after the war, US has grown and advanced in all areas, much more than other civilized countries in the world, and by large gap. How? By taking advantage of the weak, or so called Third World Countries, manipulating, wars and selling arms, and stealing the countries natural resources, and more.. more.. and more!! In other word we cheated!!

We live in multilevel luxury homes. Drive nice new cars in safest freeway system in the world. We have so much food that we waste more than 25% of it. etc. Well all these luxturies has a price, but who paid for it? The poor people of those same third word countries. And they pay a very high price, by hunger, poverty and death.

Best Regards.

Respect of laws. Democracy does not guarantee success. There are many democratic countries not as successful because laws are not respected and enforced. Respect and enforcement of laws enhance stability which attract foreign investments.
Plus, immigrants have been bringing in lots of money into this country.

because we work together unlike other countries that rejected foreigners we accepted them and made them part of us and look at us now. Were one of the most powerful nations in the world and we have only been around for less than 300 years while other nations have been around for thousands of years but are no where close to what we have achieved.

Joe Pesci said it best in a movie once. I forget the name of the movie.

It is because our forfathers were smart enough to realize that they weren't smart enough to forsee everything. So they allowed so the constitution can be changed via amendments and such

it's not! our government has been violating the constitution for decades. just read the document, it specifically details what the federal government is allowed to do. then look at what the feds are doing and wanting to do, and you'll see that the federal government is doing many things that the constitution did not authorize it to do.
