* 99% of Mexican history has NOTHING to do with Spanish, Spain, or Europeans or anything "Latin American."

* Mexico has over 4,000 years of civilization.

* Mexico has more pyramids than Egypt.

* Mexico has FIVE MAJOR Civilizations:
1) The Olmecs
2) Teotihuacan
3) The Toltecs
4) The Mexica (incorrectly called "Aztecs")
5) Mayans

* The Maya were never unified politically, but the people in Central Mexico were (see above).

* There were several other smaller civilizations who also had cities and towns: Zapotecs, Mixtecs, Huaxtecs, Purepecha, etc.

* The greatest achievements of Mexican civilizations came from the Maya.

* All Mexican civilizations were preoccupied with astronomy, writing, and mathematics.

* Mexicans invented 12 different types of writing. The most advanced writing came from the Mayans.

* Mexico invented its own version of the wheel, but did not have large animals to use it with, unlike Europe.

* Mexico had the largest city in the world twice: Teotihuacan and later on, Tenochtitlan (Mexico City)

* Ancient Mexicans domesticated corn (because corn cannot grow large without human intevention).

* The majority of Mexicans are of Indigenous (Indian) ancestry.

* 30% of Mexico is still full-blood Indian.

* Mexico is one of the few places in the world where civilization was created totally independently of outside help (no Greeks, Chinese, no Hindus).

It all starts with the Aztecs (who already had delicious cuisine)
They got invadored by Spain, who took their gold and made them speak Spanish.
Mexico got independence in like the 1820's, but I don't think they fought a war. Maybe has to do with what Napoleon had been doing in Europe, I dunno.
In like the 1840's US and Mexico had a war starting because of Texas declaring independence, so Mexico lost territory.
In the 1860's France tried to impose an emperor on Mexico and try to get Mexico to pay some old debts or something?
Mexicans defeated some French on cinco de mayo I think.
That's about it.
