Some people honestly believe that the rest of the mainstream media is so balanced toward the left (instead of balanced toward whatever story gets good ratings), that they believe the bias of Fox toward the right is necessary to correct this perceived injustice. This is called a martyr complex.
What I find ironic is that only Fox *calls* itself "fair and balanced," when it seems the most biased of all of them. One of their commentators became a White House Press Secretary!

Maybe because it is?
If other mainstream media were even remotely centrist in their reporting, there would never have been a need for
FoxNews. Hence the slogan "fair and balanced" which tells the world that they have journalistic standards.
Kenny J - Of course I could rewrite Liane Casten's story without the biased spin and show that FoxNews was the hero trying to reign in a couple of so-called activist journalists on a witch hunt to destroy the reputation of a big corporation by reporting only ONE SIDE OF THE STORY That's what "fair and balanced" means.
justgoodfolk & relevant_inq - Q: If so few people vote conservative in this country, why is FoxNews the leader in viewers? - A: Because you are so far left you're irrational, and FoxNews is actually centrist.
Conservatives don't become journalists or school teachers, they become soldiers and small business owners. That's why Acedemia and Journalism are skewed left while the Army and entrepreneurs are on the right. Its a FACT.

Balanced means fair-something that has been woefully missing from most of the other broadcast networks. When folks start making stuff up or do not tell the whole story, that effectively censors the people's right to know. After speaking to a slew of veterans from Iraq and Afganistan as I have, most folks would realize they are not getting the full story out of most networks. Those on the ground report good relationships with Most of the people and are dedicated to protecting them and eradicating evil. The tens of thousands of good works and dedication of our folks there are continually underreported and that reflects badly on ALL the nets including Fox. How come the networks agreed among themselves to limit the number of times they replayed the 9-11 attacks since that fateful day because it is so disturbing? We SHOULD be disturbed and reminded of our loss and the reasons we fight. Why can't the nets continuously remind us of the good we are doing and trying to do on a daily basis in a hostile foreign land?? IS that too much to ask?? Everything is suddenly backwards anymore and folks are looking for a reason to look up instead of down, to be proud and resolute in the face of tyranny. They find some of that at FOX NEWS.The drumbeats of defeat and peril are enough to make one dig a hole and pull the door shut.To some standing up for liberty for others is a farce that should not be entertained. WE ARE ALL RELATED. Are we our brothers keeper. I believer we are. FOX demonstrates that on a daily basis. Others do not to their everlasting shame.

The same way people can say CBS is well balanced. Did Bush frame them on the memo thing?
Or how about Reuters? Yeah, they're really fair. They got busted Photoshopping pictures to make Israel look bad during last years Israel/Lebanon conflict.
Or how about CNN? They had to fire one of their "fair" idiots after he made wild allegations against the military. Frankly, I'm surprised they didn't promote him, but I assume the public outcry was too great.
MSNBC - Keith Olbermann - what more needs to be said?
LA Times ran a Photoshopped picture on their front page that showed a soldier pointing a gun at a little girl.
NY Times (never met a national secret not fit to print) knowingly ran a story in their weekly magazine that was false - but what the hell - it was anti-military, so no problem, right?
I don't think Fox is unbiased - but I get really tired of the left acting so holier-than-thou when the MSM is skewed left and LIES constantly. But hey - it's okay if you're a lefty, right?

Maybe because Fox News is fair and balanced. Fox news gives both sides a chance to speak. Maybe if you watched it sometime you would see that.

Make sure you don't confuse Fox News with the O'Reilly factor and Hannity and Combs.
One is news and should be unbiased, which I think they are, the other two are self admitted conservative shows (although Combs would deny that).
By the way, if I ever hear a newscaster say something positive about the administration or Bush, I don't have to look at the TV to know it's Fox News. What does that say about CNN, ABC, NBC, CNBC, MSNBC, etc?

It isn't and despite their protests the courts have shown, on behalf of Fox, otherwise.
When Fox wins a court case on their right to distort news they lose the well balanced claim.

Why, it IS.
They cover ALL the political spectrum, from the far right to the extreme right, in a Fair and Balanced way.
;-)
Not that the others are much better. They cover the "a little bit right" in addition to the above, approved, areas of the spectrum.
