First Texas is not the largest state, Alaska is. Texas is the only state that can legality fly its flag at the same height as the US flag. When Texas joined the US it retained the wright to succeed and become its own republic. If Texas were a country it would have the worlds 5th largest economy. The largest military base in the world is in Texas (Ft. Hood) There have been 70 Medal of Honer winners in the state of Texas. Texas has the most counties of any state 254. Texas has 3 of the top 10 most populous cities in the US, Houston, San Antonio, Dallas. The first suspension bridge in the US was built in Waco Texas. And I'll finish.
The following is written by someone BORN in Texas, but who sees things from a more-realistic perspective.
.)The battle of the Alamo was an example of faulty military thinking, wherein a battle was fought and lost at great cost over a militarily insignifigant location for no tactical or strategic gain.
.)"Apparently everything is bigger there", Especially egos
.)"Dr pepper was invented in waco, texas in 1880s", Oh joy, carbonated prune juice!
.)"President George W Bush is from Texas". Like THAT is something to brag about.
.) Texas is #49 in verbal SAT scores in the nation (493)(See link) You can't get into anything but a community college with an individual score that low, and THEN only at the remedial level!
.) Texas is #46 in average math SAT scores (502).
.)Out of Texas’ 145 public and private higher education institutions, only one private institution, Rice University, ranked among the nation’s top 50.
.)"There are real cowboys here that actually wear cowboy hats and boots." And a butt-load more goat-roper wanna-be's and oughtright dudes wearing them as well.
.)"The only state that singlehandedly beat a nation in war (mexico)" Mexico was a militarily weak and scattered nation with no clear military goal. The leading statement ALSO overlooks the fact that California, ALSO a republic at the time, defeated Mexico with FAR less effort.
.) "Authentic texas barbecue is beef only - no pig, no chicken" Well, the educated rest of the country refers to pig meat as PORK, (See scores listed in #5 above) and also enjoys a bit of variety.in their diet.
