could be for many reasons:
1. the pill is only 99.9% effective...there is always that 0.01% chance
2. if you dont take it the same time everyday then it leaves a window where you are more at risk for getting pregnant
3. you need to wait 1 month after starting the pill before its safe to go at it like that
4. certain medications, like anti-biotics, interfere with the hormones and chemicals in birth control, ergo leaving it useless

I have been there, honey! My beautiful little girl is 3 1/2 and she is our "pill baby." The pill is 99.9% effective when taken correctly. That still leaves .1% of us who will get pregnant on the pill even when you do everything right.
Some things that can throw off the pills ability to work are diarreah, vomiting, taking antibiotics. Think back to 5 weeks ago, were you sick? stomach not right? taking medication?
All of these things can effect it. If not, you might be in the .1% of us who get VERY unexpected blessings.
I wouldn't trade my little girl for anything in the world, but now I am on the pill and we use condoms, too! I'm not up for another surprise like that. Remember, children are a gift from the Lord!
Congratulations!

Congrats! I too went through this. On the pill and got pregnant. Reason: I was on antibiotics and the Dr didn't tell me that the pill's effectiveness lowers when on antis. "Great Doc should have told me that before."
If this isn't the case....did you miss a pill or more? How long have you been on the pill? If less than three months, the pill hasn't had time to take control of the hormones.
I do hope this has helped. Please note that my incident took place 15 years ago and we have a great daughter.

Either you missed a pill or two, or else it's just "S*** happens".
There's a reason why the pill is said to be 99% effective. That means for every couple who use it regularly for a year, 1% get pregnant anyway. Congrats, you hit the baby jackpot.
There are other reasons why the pill failed. A common one is taking antibiotics; also some anti-nausea drugs have that effect. (It was a common joke a few years ago - "Souvenir of Mexico" - couples who go to Mexico on vacation, get Montezuma's revenge, and then get pregnant because of the drug she took.)

Were you sick? Did you take antibiotics? I have a friend who got pregnant on the pill and she found out it was because she had taken an antibiotic that made her pill stop working.
I also have a friend who got pregnant on the pill and she has no clue why. Sometimes it just happens...if you take the pill late or skip a day.

I can't tell you exactly....but I have gotten pregnant twice now while taking birth control. When I was pregnant with my son, I was taking anitbiotics the month previously....they can reduce the effectiveness of your pills ( I thought it would have only affected that month though)....and this time is a mystery! (I'm 8 weeks today!) Either way, we were thrilled both times. Nothing is completely guaranteed.....aside from abstinence.

This is possible. Did you miss a pill or two before you had sex or were you taking any kind of antibiotics? Antibiotics kill birth control for the amount of time that you take them. If not any of these, ask your doctor. He/she could probably tell you the reason.

The pill is only 99% effective. Yes, there is that 1% chance that you can still get pregnant while using them. I never did, but I have heard of it happening. It's rare, but not unheard of.

of course it is possible. even if you take it perfectly (at the same time everyday) it is only 98% acurate. this means that it is possible for you to get pregnant if you have unprotected sex 1 in 50 times.
make sure to stop taking the pill now. it can cause birth defects in the baby.

It is possible, the pill only lowers your risk of getting pregnant, it doesn't eliminate it. The guy should have used a condom too, that would have made it even more unlikely for you to get pregnant.
