Let me ask where you found this information, first, and let me also remind you that there is no such thing as scientific fact, only scientific theory that is constantly being modified and reworked.
There was a time when people knew that we were put here by God, and that was fact. There was a time when the world was flat, and that was fact. And there was a time when the atom was the smallest particle known to man, and that was fact. Now? The theory of evolution exists; the world is proven to be round; and the atom has been split open to reveal even smaller particles.
All facts? No -- THEORIES. Just like this question of yours.

Something that has yet to occur is NOT an absolute fact. You may believe it to be an absolute certainty, but by definition something that is a 'fact' must have already been proven to be true. For example, what happens if a massive meteorite hits earth in 2107 and wipes out humanity? That rather b*ggers up your argument that humanity will have 'self-destructed' on the grounds that being hit by a ruddy great meteorite cannot really be deemed 'self-destruction'

did you know that currently there are 50 million species on the planet
since the earth began there have been 50 billion
extinction is a natural progression for the planet species where dying out a long time before we were around
in fact we have surpassed the usual cycle
but eventually the sun will go super nova and then the planet itself will become extinct
i know this is a depressing thought but you started it

Its a self profiling prophecy. Just look around, religious ppl have power and want the end to come so they can meet their creator. Wasn't there a mathematical equation to prove this? Read the comments people write or look at the news read magazines books etc. get a general look at the big picture and see the mind set of people. I wouldnt be surprised if it all ended sooner than that.

Give me your empirical data to prove this then I will believe it. You should probably find that after much studying the planet is already healing itself again. It is a cyclical event. We aren't causing global warming it is a natural phenomenon caused by the sun itself! Evolution dictates that the strong will survive so perhaps the demise of animals prior to today were pre-destined to happen.

Maybe, maybe not.
Man can survive without animals. We can grow meat in peitre dishes now and could grow as much as we need. We could also survive on plant products or recycle people a la Soylent Green.
Some animals do well with humans like rats, roaches, pidgens, crow, and some others thrive.
We will adapt and solve many of the problems we face. We will emigrate to the closer planets and by the year 3000, the stars.

Well it would have helped if you included evidence with your theory. We human are the most intelligent species on earth, we adapt to changes, so I don't see that happening in a million years let alone the next 1000.

Nope. Because where "humanity" is concerned, there are no "absolutes". We can't accept everything that HAPPENED 1,000 years AGO- & we're supposed to "know" what's GOING to happen a Thousand years from NOW??! I will grant you that we probably WILL "self-destruct" one day. But whether that day is tomorrow or 25,000 "tomorrows"from now- NOBODY's "guess" is better than mine. ( & If there IS a couple more of those "tomorrow's coming to us", -have a good weekend! :) )

Hey,
atleast we will be dead.
Then in a couple of billion years
there will be life again
and people posting random facts on yahoo answers.
Was the point of this question to annoy us?
Or perhaps depress other yahoo users.
I like learning about different things and facts but do not say it is for sure yet.
Nothing is.

There are no absolute facts for the future.
Not only that, but there is no way we will make all insects extinct - they will be the next to rule the earth if humanity dies.
