I read all of the answers you have recieved and I was sitting here thinking about something.

I DONT QUITE THINK SO!!!!!!

No. Simply hanging a rope from a tree is NOT a crime unless you tresspassed. You might get sued for harrassment, but there is no CRIME for hanging a rope, even a noose, from a tree.

Now, is it right to hang a rope from a tree to suggest some sort of punishment if some people from a certian group do or don't do what another group says? No, of course not. Not only does it violate the rules of civility which should govern the behavior of us Americans (which SO MANY people are ignorant of or do not obey), but it is a form of terrorization and it is certianly harassment. (Remember folks, terrorism is the "unlawful use of violence or threat of violence to inculcate fear; intendted to coerce or to intimidate governments or societies in the pursuit of goals that are generally political, religious, or ideological." (Terrorism Awareness for Marines MCI MCI 0210B).

It depends on how that rope is tied. If you hung a noose on my tree for instance. I would feel that you are threatening my life and call the police. It's like saying, "I want to hang and kill you". In my opinion that is a direct threat against my life. I can't believe you people. So if I walk around with a gun, is that threatening? You dang right it is. Nooses were used to kill people not skip rope!!!! It should be considered brandishing a weapon. A picture of a noose is one thing an actual noose is a whole different animal. Look at how you justify your hatred!!! You're SICK!!!!!!
Sillykelly - You're a troll and a sick idiot. And if you hung a ghost by a rope from your tree on Halloween, I'd call the flipping cops on you too. Taste. Ask Santa for some this Christmas will ya? And make sure he stuffs some class in your stocking too as you are in dire need of it.
Edit: musichild this was obviously in relation to US law so pulling British law out your bum is completely useless (but I guess being British is useless in and of itself). Shut your ignorant piehole. You know nothing of the African-American struggle so do not profess to. And we all know you are not black. You're not fooling anyone. Hooker.

Hanging a "rope" on a tree...not a crime.
Hanging a yellow bow on a tree...not a crime.
Hanging a tire on a tree...not a crime.
Hanging a bird feeder on a tree...not a crime.

HANGING A ROPE TIED INTO A NOOSE HUNG ON A TREE.... should absolutely be considered a crime ---- when in connection to hate crimes.

A rope tied into a NOOSE and hung on a tree.... is one of the most prevalent acts used by racist whites to intimidate and incite fear in blacks. It is a statement beyond words.

A rope tied into a NOOSE and hung on a tree.....represents an act of something vile and evil.

A rope tied into a NOOSE and hung from a tree..... is a crystal clear message that means a black person is going to die soon. I see that as premeditated murder.

A rope tied into a NOOSE and hung from a tree....
means that the life of a human being, who is black, is in the hands of a group of racist who are consumed with deep hatred and could care less if that black person has children, family or friends.

That rope.....tied into a noose...hung on a tree...is criminal.

If it is just a rope, then no. If it is a noose and it is hung just to hang on a tree? No.

If it is a noose or a burning cross and put in someone's yard or a church, or directed to a specific person then it can be a crime depending where you are.

To: brandyfan22: Should the black kids be charged with a hate crime? There were 5 on 1 and calling him racially charged names.

ctf082: It's spelled FIGHTS not fites. Somebody should have stayed in school.

Depending on what you are hanging the rope for. If you are hanging a rope in the tree to climb it for some reason that's one thing. But to make a noose out of it.. a noose is a weapon. You'd better hope your tree is guarded.

Hanging a noose in a tree is considered in context as a perceived threat to the safety of certain minority groups and may be classified as a hate crime.

You know what's funny, all the protesters wore black yesterday to unite. If it was the opposite, and whites were protesting and wore all white, they would call it a KKK meeting, haha! Hanging a rope from a tree is not a crime and neither is hanging a noose. It is not in good taste, but is covered under free speech.
Brandy, who is facing 22 years in prison? No one! Read up a bit before you make posts.

depends on ur intent. if it is maliciously used as a reference to times of slavery or civil rights movement, yes. hate crime.

school should be held accountable for no intervention. i believe a class action suit against the school board for negligence is next. all the 6 kids have to do is prove they were not counseled and experienced extreme emotional turmoil for the incident involving the hanging of the nooses from the tree. when references to times of slavery or civil rights movement are maliciously used, it heightens tensions; racists understand that and use this as a powerful tool of agitation. there's a history of racial incidents, yet no 1 counseled either side. seems like we're still living in 1955-1965. i wud have whooped his azz 2.

it's kind of funny how Jena doesnt want to be painted as a racist town, but how can it not after what has taken place?

News flash!!! these kinds of fites happen everyday. when did kids get tried for attempted murder or sentenced to 22yrs for mob action fites? racists! this was not the action, but the reaction to the cause of this entire episode.

No, it isn't a crime and it shouldn't be. We are going off the deep end in with this pc and being so damn sensitive about every little thing that is said to us.
I've never met any one who has never been cussed at, called a name or insulted.
Unless someone physically hit you or damages your property smile and walk away.
We are becoming a pathelic society. How sad!
