Isnt it if the light falls on the back of your car?

if you enter the intersection when it is red.
that means that if you enter the intersection when it is yellow, then it is fine even if it turns red after you are in the intersection.
but also in California there are anti-gridlock laws,
if you enter an intersection that you can not completely cross, then you will be ticketed for blocking the cross traffic.

If the cop or the camera get you you have run a red lite.
