China needs every soldier it has to keep the ruling communists in power.
And they're not much of an army. Sure, they can crush unarmed students with tanks and crush Tibetan nationalists and brutally repress the Fulan Gong, but the only time they've fought in modern time, an incursion into Vietnam, they got their butts whipped.
Besides, in order to be a world police, it requires the ability to project significant force anywhere in the world. That essentially requires a significant navy with a powerful naval air force. I doubt they could muster the power of 1 carrier group.

China with a 1 billion troop count? Might want to recheck your source. Mine says that China's entire population is 1.3 billion.
The point I think is that China's army could be by far the largest in the world. If they were prepared to suffer the consequences and damages to their homeland and citizens, a well-trained and well-equipped military of their size could probably wipe out the United States.

China's population is roughly over 1-billion.
No one knows how big China's Army really is,it's estimated that they are at 2.3 million troops and growing, they also apply about 16 % of their budget to their military and this is up from about 8% five years ago.

Because they're smarter than we are. The Chinese KNOW that if they let US "knock ourselves OUT" by wasting our troops & money in places like Iraq- then THEY can take over the World economically- & WE won't be able to do a THING about it! :0

Probably because they want to keep as low a profile as possible until they are ready to attack while the United States "proves" to the world that they are still the dominant power.

oh jeez , china ain't "communist" by definition , look at all the corruption of wealthy and peasants (fraud corrupt nation), government may control much in country , but far "communist" in sharing wealth , they have ICBMs pointed at U.S. these corrupt "politicians" in our country just like to go to their child brothels and made them wealthy with Our wealth money and trade , yeah casino owning "communist" , more like a dictatorship of Organized Crime and Corruption running their country (ah, organized crime , may be why "our" "politicians" like to deal with them so much , "our" "politicians" are not looking out for OUR best interest of the public in OUR Country)

China has about 2.25 million active troops. We have just under 1.5 million.
