Aren't they promoting irresponsible use of natural resources, and unsafe driving?

absolutely not
sports cars are what drives the technology.
most safety features on normal cars started from sports and race cars. if they had not been sold, then most cars would be getting bad gas mileage and would be way more unsafe.

Unsafe? Sports cars are usually stronger, handle better (less likely to slide off the road), accelerate better (able to get away from trouble if need be), and brake better (stopping faster is always better.) And it does these things with more control than a regular car.

Sports cars (except in america) tend to be smaller, lighter, and more efficient than regular cars - carrying extra fuel makes the car heavier, resulting in weaker performance. This is why the Honda S2000 was rated as an Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle, even though it makes 240hp from a 2 litre engine.

As for driving irresponsibly, that's all on the driver - not the car. I often see people in Porsches being passed by someone in a beat-up old truck - should I infer driving slowly is irresponsible? Or that high speed in a vehicle not designed for it is considered "responsible?"

I suggest you stop blaming the cars, and start blaming the drivers.

Irresponsible? How so?
Drivers are irresponsible, not the car manufacturers.
Under Federal Law, manufacturers must build their fleets to meet C.A.F.E Standards (Corporate Average Fuel Economy.)
I drive a 1992 Corvette with 173,000 miles on it.
It averages 22 MPG combined driving, and more than 31 MPG on a road trip.
Are there cars with better gas mileage? Sure, but none are as much fun as what I've got.
I drive more conservatively than most young drivers in their Civic and Carola coupes.

See, everyone seems to think that anyone who drives a sports car is irrisponsible. But that's not true, infact most of the time is the opposite. Who would want to get in a wreck with an expensive SPORTS CAR? My friend's mom doesn park next to them cause she thinks they'll bang her car... not true cause that would hurt the precious car too.
So no, its not the companies fault, its the steriotype. And if someone does drive unsaftly, its the driver's fault not the company...
Also, more and more sports cars are being made from better resources instead of natural ones just like the other cars out there.

Sorry if i sound ude of something its just that i'm a big sports car fan and my dad drives one and it really annoys us when people promote steriotypes... its like when people call a porsche, a porch. like the thing you put in your backyard and sit on... >.<

Car companies are no more irresponsible than car owners. They are just responding to a market need. If they knowingly build a dangerous car, then they are being irresponsible. Most sports cars are smaller, lighter and more efficient than regular cars. How many SUV's do you see with only one person in them. Is that being responsible?

sports cars allow a much higher profit margin which in turn funds r &d for safer cars. Sports cars also have many more safety features then other cars. And the unsafe driving isnt the car, its the driver.
