Or inciting a riot?

lametorg, were any of them charged with a hate crime? And BTW, a riot doesn;t have to occur, to be charged with inciting one.

in regards to the history of hanging nooses from the 'white tree' and intimidating black students for sitting under it? Or did you actually think that those kids beat up that other kid for no reason?

same thing with burning crosses. Sorry, but your lame attempts to assume that a noose means nothing are not working. I mean, why did they use a noose, and not an electric chair? Nobody hangs anyone anymore...at leats, not legally...nice try, though. Your attempts at hiding your racism, or your coy defenses of those who l;ook to get their asses kicked, is pathetic

The ones responsible for the ropes were not charged with anything. The school felt that three days of in-school suspension was sufficient punishment and law enforcement was never involved.

One of the black kids who sat under the tree was initially charged with inciting a riot (not sure if that charge was dropped). Should be noted that there wasn't a riot after he sat there either but he was still charged.

The white kid who beat up the black kid at the party was charged with simple battery and I think he ended up getting probation.

You can make the argument that the black kids need to be held responsible for the beating, and they should be, physical violence is never ok but you people can't be so stupid that you honestly believe that a tool of murder is something that should be casually overlooked. They hung them from the white tree for a reason and to deny that is just foolish and part of the reason why tempers have been so inflamed. I repeat, that kid did not deserve to be beaten by six people but stop acting like those ropes were not hung for a reason. Even if it's not punishable as a hate crime, it is a punishable crime under the Patriot Act (don't know how many of you have bothered to read it, but you really should). Not to mention morally reprehensible. Its pretty much the same as a person going to NY and hanging little buildings with half of an airplane sticking out of each side all over the city and acting surprised when chased by an angry mob.

No, they were suspended from school for placing 3 nooses in a tree, there was no riot.

Yes it was a racist act but it did not violate any laws therefore no hate crime or any other legal statute applies.

It probably will be made illegal after this incident and rightfully so.

I don't consider this to be any different than cross burnings, panting a swastika on a Jewish temple or quite frankly a bomb threat.

Please note that the kid that was beat up by the Jena 6 was not involved with the noose incident. So the noose cannot be used as an excuse for provocation for beating this kid.

The white kids hung nooses.. This was meant to intimidate the black students. It was not a mature thing to do, and they should not have done it. However, I don't believe that it was a crime.

When the black kids retaliated by ganging up on a white boy and beating the crude outta him... Well, that was not only the wrong thing to do, but it was also a crime. Its simple assault and battery. Also seeing how this thing was racial motived brought it to a higher level.

If it was the other way around and a bunch of white kids beat the crude outta a black boy because he was black, then wouldn't you think that a crime had been committed? Would you be asking for justice then? What we are looking for here is JUSTICE.. We are not asking for the death sentence, just appropriate justice.

No but I'm not sure a crime was even committed but the school probably should have dealt with that issue. The sad thing is the kid that got beat up had nothing to do with the nooses hanging from the tree..............

Since when is it a crime to hang a rope from a tree? Sure I agree the people that hung those ropes should be punished and punished to the full extent, but it's not a crime. The assault and beating of a person by one not to mention 6 is a crime. If the law says the prosecutor can charge anyone at the age of 16 as an adult then he can, according to the law. Now if he is stepping over his bounds to charge them as adults, then that should be stopped. The best defense a black man has in this country is his color. Not his name, background, education or reputation, but the fact that he is black. It's a sad day when this is allowed and accepted.

Does the same race relations act work two ways ????
do the Police have any more difficulty charging a black person than a white ???
did they ever charge anyone with PC Blakelocks hatchet murder or were there no white folks around to blame

The race laws in this country are loaded against US, The POLICE, The COURTS and we are all unable to do anything about it without some silly Bu**er shouting Racist
They don't need Equality they already have Superiority handed to them by the government

The real question is WHY ???????

They should be, given the interpretation of hate crime laws. One does hang a noose from a tree and expect no repercussions...unless it is part of a Halloween display.

I'm surprised they weren't charged with a hate crime. It's usually the whites or "straights" who are accused of it. Don't get me wrong, I am all for whites who perpetrate a hate crime against anyone to pay for it, but it ought to be the same for any race against another race, any sexual orientation against another, and so forth. It all just makes me so tired. If you ask me, crime should just be "wrong" and that should be that. Assault is assault, period, no matter what group the perpetrator or victim belongs to.

No.

Wow. How would some of you answer if the African American kids had verbally threatened the White kids with lethal actions? Would that have justified these actions?

Do you think they should be? Was Nifong charged with a hate crime for his race based, contrary to the facts, malicious prosecution of the Duke lacrosse players?
