Does that mean most feminists disagree with men because feminists are dumb and/or misandrists?

What a pathetic attempt from feminists to negate debate from men.

They must be allergic to logic.

Anyone who disagrees with Nazism must be dumb or anti-Aryan.

Their own movement does not even live up to it's own supposed values of "equality", in almost all areas they are currently campaigning in (reproductive rights, domestic violence, family law, education etc.) I don't suppose that sort of thing has anything to do with it.

No, I'm being ridiculous it must be because men who judge feminism based on it's actions don't understand that feminism is "really about equality" so are dumb, not to mention misogynistic because they therefore have a problem with women having equal rights.

"Feminism is not a movement about supremacy and in fact about equality because we say so. You must be dumb for not believing us on the basis of evidence which contradicts what we say. So you have a problem with equality, misogynist!"

Btw I like Rio's answer to that question. Male feminists fear anti-feminists. We might hurt their delicate sensibilities. Damn straight..

It is a common enough tactic with movements that have been found to be false. Preventing and deriding those who dissent is the only way they can keep their movement above water for a little longer. They like to make comments that we are dumb and misogynistic. Yet when you read all the answers you can see that the feminists come back with more of the spiteful answers than the anti feminists do. It seems that to them any kind of fact or differing opinion is considered misogynistic.

Spuddy: "Most people (not just men, I see just as many women) who disagree with feminism have an extremely skewed perception as to what feminism really is." What feminism REALLY is?? Read up about the way feminists victimised Erin Pizzey, a caring woman who was the founder of wordwide women's refuges, and made death threats against her and her family. THEN talk to me about what "feminism is really about".

I can't say better than Chevalier: "It is a common enough tactic with movements that have been found to be false. Preventing and deriding those who dissent is the only way they can keep their movement above water for a little longer. They like to make comments that we are dumb and misogynistic."

postscript - Spuddy, thanks for coming back to me to augment/clarify your POV. I think I understand better where you are coming from and I take on board your suggestion that *some* women who label themselves feminists have made worthwhile contributions that does not take the 'movement' - the 'feminista' if you like - off the hook. Any movement has to be judged by what it is perceived to be and this in effect what its 'radicals' do and say. Its 'press' or publicity, if you like. And those people, like Solanas and Dworkin, for instance have said some horrible things.

And, finally, remember that Hitler loved his dog. Did that make Hitler a nice guy?

What exactly is it that you disagree with? The right for women not to be pigeonholed into "traditional roles" if they don't want to be? The right to earn equal pay? The right to vote and hold public office? The right for women not to marry or have children if they don't want to? The right to hold certain jobs that might not be considered appropriate for them? Taking crimes like rape and spousal abuse seriously instead of blaming the victims? You must disagree because that's what feminism is really all about.

Most people (not just men, I see just as many women) who disagree with feminism have an extremely skewed perception as to what feminism really is. Feminism is not matriarchy. Feminism is not about making women superior to men. Sure, there are misandrists out there, but every group has its radicals. Why is this so hard to grasp?

Edit: celtish, I don't think you get it. Sure, there are some women who would consider themselves feminist who resort to calling anyone who dissents from the movement as "misogynists" or "dumb," but to discredit an entire movement because of a few within the movement with faulty logic and a penchant for using ad hominem arguments is simply ridiculous. Every movement has these types, even those who fight for racial equality. Does that mean racial equality is based upon falsities? No. We just call these people radicals.

There are good points to be made about negative aspects in society that have arisen since the feminist movement, such as: the faulty legal system when it comes to divorce and child custody. My brother is in the middle of a child custody case with his insane ex girlfriend and unfortunately, he is being made out to be the bad guy when that is not the case.
This is where good intentions have gone awry and the core values of the movement need to be reevaluated. No rational individual would suggest that the rights of one group should be squelched in favor of another's. By suggesting that I read up on Erin Pizzey you assumed that as someone who would be identified as a feminist that I automatically disregard the plight that men feel, and that the plight of women should be first and foremost. This is not the case at all. This is not the case for any rational person who identifies as a feminist, as I mentioned before.
As I have said, I do not consider myself a feminist because I am against all sorts of discrimination based upon factors an individual cannot change such as gender or race, however I am frequently identified with feminists, and that is fine by me.

Let's put aside for a second that you and other antis believe that feminism is some sort of man-hating supremacy movement, mmkay?

Feminism, as far as I understand it, is a movement that seeks to analyze sexist behaviour and to better the lives of women. It was only within the last 100 years that women could vote, earn equal wages, own property, have control over their bodies, and be defined for something other than their sexuality or motherhood (okay, we're still working on that one). Any reasonable person would conclude that yes, there does exist some sort of social system that has historically placed men in power and given them control over the lives and bodies of women, as is evidenced by my above points and the fact that women had to fight for basic rights, instead of having those rights in the first place.

Now, this movement does challenge gender roles. Men cannot fall back on the privilege that they have historically enjoyed (as much). Many scholars have documented a phenomenon, which I will refer to as backlash, which is expressed through right-wing politics, religious fundamentalism, and anti-feminism. As such, it is reasonable to conclude that those involved in this backlash could possibly be misogynists, but you cannot reasonably determine that those *against* this backlash necessarily hate men.

No. Your question AND your statement represents faulty logic and false theory. You have no solution, and no plan to bring to the table. All you have are accusations that ALL Feminist are dumb. Obviously, if ALL Feminist were dumb, would you think for one moment that ALL that they have fought for would have passed? No. It wouldn't have passed if they were dumb.

Your dislike of Feminist, to accuse them of being dumb, is rather, juvenile on your part. Don't HATE because Feminist know how to BRING IT TO THE TABLE and have it passed. Now, that makes me wonder about People like you. If you think that you're so smart, then, why are you sitting on your pompous behind and be smart enough to lobby against them when they are voicing themselves to pass laws in their favor?

Apparently voicing yourself on Y!A is your solution to lobby...
