I think 2,500 words is more like 7-8 pages, but I guess it could be longer with some clever margin changes and 12.5 font. Did your teacher/ professor tell you that 2,500 words is 10 pages? You should ask to have that clarified. Otherwise, when you write the paper and get to 2,500 words but only 7 pages, you'll wish you asked.
As for your topic, you should choose something that interests you and something you want to learn about. Maybe click on some news stories, and see which ones you read all the way through. You don't want to get stuck with a topic you don't care about.

Take out a scrap piece of paper and, without thinking too much, write out the 10 topics that are most interesting to you in world. Let's assume #1 is movies, #2 is shopping (just for example sake, I'm not making any statement with these). If it involved movies, you could write a paper on how scary movies are a reflection of a country's collective nightmare at the time and then discuss the main scary movies and what they represent. It would be easy to research that.
Let's assume it's shopping. You could write a paper about the process of how it starts to where it ends up - like using workers in third world countries. You could write about the evolution of the purse - where did purses come from? You could even have an attachment (maybe if teacher allows) of diagrams of old purses you refer to.
The key is (1) write about what interests you and (2) write about what you think your teacher won't be bored reading. They'll thank you when grading.

This sounds like an IB internal assessment topic. Just google that and see what comes up. I did mine on "how did Mark Twain's writings on the evils of imperialism aid the anti-war movement during the phillippine-american war?" And then there are things like comparing motifs 2 literary works. Or how immigration affects a country like France where there are anti-immigration lobbies going on. The effectiveness of propaganda, especially photgraphs taken by Nick Ut, during the vietnam war to further either the war or anti-war movements.

You can write that how your teacher is overstepping his/her bounds by assigning an essay about "how there isnt enough religious freedom in schools" and is violating the 1st and 14th amendments, nonetheless that it's ten pages by Friday.
