I used to think he was a pretty good QB although definitely overrated - but a good guy nonetheless. Now I don't like him at all. He took the low road for sure.

Yes, I respect him. He's actually a well-educated man and I think some of what he says carries some weight. He's been in the league for a while now and he knows the politics and the drama behind being an NFL star.
That being said, I don't know if I can say that I would take everything that he says at face-value, but he's speaking his mind and he has a right to do so, even if others want to critize him.
Tom Brady and Peyton Manning have lost games before too and yes, they don't make excuses and they are accountable for what the product that they demonstrate on the field. Does that give a free pass to McNabb, of course not. The issue is not performing well, it's more or less the expectations are different the way that he sees it.
The team is 0-2 not just because of his sub-par play. The team is not executing and they look lost. It's very hard to come back from an injury like that and pick-up where you left off before. It takes a while and the rest of the team needs to start playing at their full potential.

Of course I respect Donavan McNabb. He's one of 32 starting QB's in the NFL and he's played in a Superbowl. That puts him in a pretty elite class in my opinion. I couldn't hope to do what he does. One of those 300# defensive linemen hits me at full speed - this fat kid is all done. Football is a team sport. No QB is any better than his protection and the guys he's throwing the ball to. To the best of my knowledge, Donavan doesn't have any elite receivers this year? Look at Brady with the crew he has + he has an awesome offensive line.
Winning cures everything. The Eagles aren't doing so well, so naturally all the Eagles fans are Tuesday morning quarterbacks. Donavan is the main man, therefore the victim of the fan venom when things go bad. Pretty sure he was hero in 2004/2005? Last season he was hurt.
Nobody in New England has anything bad to say about Brady right now. However - you should hear them rip apart the Red Sox and Terry Francona for being on the verge of letting that lead over the Yankees slip away.
All summer long the Red Sox walked on water in New England. Now their a bunch of bums. In the words of Al Davis - 'Just win baby'!

I am a redskins fan so I of course despise the eagles, but that being said, I have plenty of respect for Donovan McNabb. I've watched the guy play at least twice a year for the last 7 years and he has consistently been one of the top 5 QBs in the game, i've watched him kill us too many times. Only recently has he begun to be injury prone.
Throughout his career the media in Philly has lambasted the man, though I don't think it has anything to do with him being black, more about the lack of Super Bowl wins, it's about a city that hasn't had a winner in any sport in a looooong time. So the media is always pissed off and always holding a grudge. For most of the time he has been in Philly McNabb kept his mouth shut on controversial issues, because it would not help the team. Now things have changed, because they drafted a QB with a high pick, and seem to be ready to get rid of him, so he feels his loyalty is not being repaid and now he doesn't care and will say what he wants.
And for the record he didn't bring up the subject, he was asked a question by HBO and answered it as he felt it, it's an opinion, let him have it.

It's true he was ridiculous for saying about the black qb thing. He's wrong and stupid for saying something like that, and didn't really expect that from him. Look at Rex Grossman! They're smashing on the poor guy and he doesn't look like he's of african descent. But Philly really need to appreciate Mcnabb more for the things he's done for that team and this isn't the first time he's played injured. I remembered during one game he broke his leg or foot and still came out playing without telling his coaches till after the game. Some might say it was heroic and some might've said it was stupid of him. The guy's tough no doubt and still has my respect but those comments about black qbs seemed like an last resort excuse. Oh and i'm not a eagles fan.

I dont know why D Mcnabb thinks this as a Dolphin fan I read all over the place how the white Green has made bad throws and needs to get his timing down. Mcnabb does play in Philly and lets just go with the media and fans dont like to loose with good even great athletes and they ride the face of the franchise more harshly in Philly than anywhere in the country. Maybe his comments were due to that fact playing in Philly so long he doesnt see it from others, I would like to think that a change of scenery for him would do him and his physche a favor, maybe even help him recover from those many injuries, mind is often the first thing to get hurt and the hardest to heal, you mind can also affect your bodily injuries.

I respect McNabb for his work ethic and the fact the tries hard to perform despite his history of injury. You have to respect a man for doing that.
However, I do not respect him for his recent comments. Clearly the Eagles and McNabb himself are struggling a bit so far this season, and throwing in the race card to justify that is just silly. He really needs to work on his own game and tend to his team rather than worrying about what the media thinks.

As an Eagles fan I am disappointed in his remarks. He seems to be trying to deflect his short comings as a QB by dumping on "White Society". Whatever that means! Frankly I'm sick of hearing "minorities", Whatever that means constantly taking shots at everyone else.
I think what McNabb did was racist and I hope the Eagles unload him after the season, or sooner.

I've always respected McNabb as a player and he's certainly one of my favourites. But I don't see why he's playing the race card now. When you look at the individual cases of current and past QBs it doesn't seem to add up. Look at the (deserved) criticism JP Losman is getting. Being white doesn't help him. And look at the latitude being given to develop Tavaris Jackson.

The beauty of America is that we are all entitled to have an opinion. Donavan is entitled to feel that way. That doesn't mean I think he is right. He should not be condemned for life for making a foolish statement. We all make mistakes and we need to move on. If people would stop being so critical of one another, everyone would be better off.
