A lot depends on how much was back filled around your foundation. I recommend going out past the backfill line to undisturbed ground, whether it be two feet or six. RScott

You should have at least a 3 foot extension on the down spout. But the most important thing is that the ground runs away from the house. If you have a spot where the ground slops toward the house then you need to by tile and dig a trench from the bottom of the down spout towards the area of the ground that slopes away from the house, then bring the trench level with the ground and let the tile drain out there.
Also it a good idea to use a concrete water splash for the water to hit instead of the water hitting the ground, this keeps the ground frond getting holes and soft spots.

depends on your house,,honestly the further the better. standard down spouts with splash blocks usually are enough, unless your grade is hilly. Then you need drain tile ( black 4 '' tubing to carry the run off away or long pieces of pvc pipe , but the drain tile is cheaper and flexable

I would run them out to the edge of your landscape beds. Better yet trench in drain tile and put in pop- ups at the end. Go to Home depot and they will get you what you need.

Depends on the soil........and do you have a spill block.....something for the water from the rainspout to travel along to about 18-24 inches from the house? That's usually enough.
