You need an attorney. Illegal for a convicted felon to own or be in the possession of a firearm, and to obtain a passport without court approval.

18 USC 925 (c) allows you to petition the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms from relief from the provisions of the 1965 amendment to the Federal Firearms Act of 1938 prohibiting felons from owning guns. However, in the opinion of the Attorney General, appropriations bills prohibit ATF from processing your application (see link). Your state may or may not issue you a permit to hunt with someone else's gun. Three is a case in the Utah Supreme Court on this now.
There is no federal law prohibiting you from obtaining a passport. The only restriction is if you are on parole, or the court has enjoined you because you are an international criminal or a danger to national security.

I dont know what the laws are in Utah, but most likey they will not give you a firearms card if you havea felony on your record. You need to either get an attorney or try to do this on your own: get an expungement for the felony. Depending on the crime and state, most of the time you can petitition for an expungement after 5-10 years. Go to the court house for more information, they will be able to help you, or talk with a lawyer. But even after the felony is expunged from your record, it will still appear on your court record, so you would need to talk with an attorney to see even if you do get that expunged, if you would be able to get a firearms card. You dont want to waste 5,000 for nothing.

Well I think hunting is out of the question, felons can't have weapons. As far as passports, is it the country you live in now that won't give you a passport, or the country you want to go to won't let you in?
Also are you still on parole? Do you have travel restrictions? There could be a lot of reasons.

the only thank you to get one's firearms rights restored after conviction of a criminal is thru a pardon with the aid of the governor of your state. There are varieties attainable to prepare for this.. in case you have not been granted a pardon, then you certainly won't be able to legally own or have a gun on your possession. Expungement does not fix gun rights

Get an attorney and see if you can have your record expunged.
I am sorry that our laws are as stupid as our legislators and that we punish folks forever, years after they have served their time.
Would it be my way, I'd have it so five years after your term is served, you would have an auto-expungment of your records.
