There would be no playoff game, and the yankees would take the division on the basis of head to head record (which the yankees won 10-8)....
This is true in the case where both teams will make the playoffs (which is the case here)....
HOWEVER... In a case where one team wins the division and the other won't make the playoffs, then the 2 play a playoff game to determine who goes to the playoffs.

If two teams in one division tie for first place, and both will be going to the postseason (one as the wildcard) regardless, then no tiebreaker game is played. MLB has a list of tiebreaker options, which is consulted until the tie is broken. The first item on the list is head-to-head record during the season, and in this unpleasant example, Boston finished second in the season series (while New York was but one position out of last place) with an 8-10 record.

the Yankess own the tie breaker as they won the series over the season. No playoff the Yanks get the division and the Sox get the wild card for the most part that is how it would happen.
