OK -- what you need to do is factor it. It's a little tricky, but it looks like this

(2x -1)(x+5 ) = 0. Note that they way I did this was I look at the middle factor (9x) and tried to see what items would give me a positive 9 when added and give me -5 when mutiplied. I know this is tricky, but that is the way factoring is.

OK so we have our equation looking like this:

(2x -1)(x+5 ) = 0. We know that either could be 0 so we have two answers.

2x-1=0 and x+5=0.

2x=1 x=1/2 is one answer
x= - 5 is the other answer.

Lets check:

2 (1/2)^2 + 9(1/2) -5 =0 ??
2/4 + 9/2 -5 = 0 ??
1/2+ 9/2 -5 = 0 ??
5-5=0 YES!!! OK 1/2 works

Now let check -5.

2(-5)^2 +9(-5) -5 =0 ??
2(25) -45 -5 =0??
50-50=0 YES!!!

OK? Hope this helps.

Here equation have second power with one unknown
so, x well have two value
x1 = { 9 ^ 2 + { [ -4 *2 *-5 ] ^ 1/2} / 2 *2
= [ 81 + [ 40 ] ^ 1/2] / 4
x1 = 21.831
x2 = { 9 ^ 2 - { [ -4 *2* -5] ^1/2 / 2 * 2
= [ 81 - [(40)^1/2] / 4
x2 = 18.669
Therefor the two value for are
(N.B. you can write the answer )
x1 = 21.831 OR x2 = 18.669

2 * -5 = -10
find 2 numbers that mult. to be -10 and add to be 9
thats 10 and -1
2x^2 + 10x - 1x -5 = 0
2x(x+5) -1(x+5) = 0
(2x-1)(x+5) = 0
x = 1/2 or x=-5

2x^2+9x-5=0
or 2x^2-x+10x-5=0
or x(2x-1)+5(2x-1)=0
or (x+5)(2x-1)=0
so either x+5=0 or 2x-1=0
or x=-5 or 2x-1=0 or x=1/2 ans

Not to be mean.... but you need to know how to spell mathematics before you practice it.
Good luck.
