To me, implies that trash is generally a person of color. Anybody else agree or have some points of view?

Ok, let me add some more details since I think some of you aren't clear on what I'm saying.

First, I'm a Black person.
Second, I don't think that the world revolves around me.
Third, what I'm saying is, why do people have to make the distinction "White" trash. Trash is trash. To me, when people say 'white trash', it sounds like regular trash refers to people of color.
Lastly, I'm a person of color. People of color is a term used universally for people who are not white. So the idiot who called me racist - step your game up.

I still appreciate any and all constructive comments.

Thank you.

I see what you mean, 'cause with every other racial term, we don't say the skin color in front of it.. We don't say black ***, right? So why white trash? Well, I've never thought that it implied that other races are already trash, and only when a white person is, that it's not normal.

But, they're also called rednecks, hill billies, and crackers. I guess white trash just sounds better than trash, 'cause in all actuality, you can call all persons of any race trash. I guess white people are the only ones that white is emphasized.

When a person does something wrong, they are garbage, they're trash! Including white people (without the white implied in front of trash). But when white trash is used, it's usually to emphasize that it's a white person who is trash, because it's a racial slur.

It's not saying we need to distinguish between white trash and regular trash (colored people). It doesn't imply people of color are already trash, and if a white person is negative they are now level with colored people. It emphasizes the fact that this piece of garbage is white, because it's a racial slur to remind people that this trash is white.

Wait, I see what you mean. Why do we need to be reminded that this trash is white?

Not sure. I think it depends on the person using the term. I had an altercation with a friend, calling she and her boyfriend white trash, because we'd go out with a group of friends, have a nice time, then the two of them would usually ruin it by fighting in the parking lot, yelling expletives at each other, etc. embarassing everyone. It happened a lot, yet they would still stay together. Cheat on each other, blah, blah blah. Both of them were really nice people alone, but together, toxic! I called them both white trash because they are both white and acting like idiots!

To me, the term has nothing to do with a reference to other races, some of our other friends aren't white, and took no offense. To me it's just a way of telling someone you are looking like a pathetic piece of scum because of the way you act. (not to mention it ruins everybody else's good time)

Anyway, I think if someone who is racist uses the term, and they mean it in the way some people us w*gger (I HATE THAT TERM), then yes I guess it could be interpreted as racist. But when I think of the term white trash, I think of someone who doesn't pay attention to how their words and actions affect others, and therefore they are offensive. In extreme cases, (as I thin someone else stated on here and as the stereotype goes) maybe they have poor hygeine, rotting teeth, dirty hair and clothes. I guess you could just call them a bum and leave the "white part off.

I think it could be interpreted many ways, that's why you have to be careful what you say so as not to offend

Well, we all eventually end up in the same place anyway. I often offend some people by the term: Trailer Trash. Many people who live in trailers don't consider themselves as trashy people either. Some people physically do end up in dumpsters and the garbage dump. Think about the ones who donate their bodies to science. I would be forced to agree that it takes all kinds in this world and there are no doubt those who fit the description in some way. But, eventually we are all dust.

Wow good one.

Or that white people dont like these certain whites because there all redneckish. Thats usually when i here white trash. Brittney Spears is the new edition to that name. So before she started acting up she wasnt trash. Now after she is white trash because she doesnt show what i guess regular whites are. What a silly name anyways. Or what about trailer trash, that usually refers to whites.

My boyfriend says he's white trash. I honestly don't see the color thing. I actually use it on all accounts regarding blacks, asians....etc. It's become a term. The problem is that when I was on other forums in my town, who is mostly black, they had no problem with the verbiage white trash.

hahaha... ok... lets see here... this is my opinion... and opinions are like a*sholez everyone has one...

Why would anyone get offended about name calling...?

First off i'm puerto rican... and what happens when people call me spik? I laugh, it's funny to me, I don't get offended at all... my daughters father (my x) is mixed, he's black and white... I call him ****@ playin around, and what not, I don't say it in a fu*ked up way or none of that... it's just the way we talk? Does that make me racist because I'm callin him that? No... I'm not racist at all...

Plain and simple... I personally think that ANYONE that gets offended by someone who is calling them names (craker, spik, ******, red neck, etc) is only mad because the shoe fits.
Those are only stupid, ignorant, words... If you know you're not any of that bull than don't pay attention to it... Thats my opinion...

The term 'white trash' means someone who is 'white' and acts trashy. You can basically add any race in the beginning before the 'trash' and it has the same effect. I think it is offensive, to the person on the receiving end.

Doesn't the term "White Trash" mean a trashy white person as opposed not being trashy? To me it has nothing to do with people of colour. It is a derogarty term used by whites to refer to well "trashy".

Don't all enthnicities have terms to refer to their own "trash"?

You should be offended because that is exactly what the term implies. It means that if a white person is not up to par they are below the other whites and are thus equivalent to the colred people. Now that is all fine and dandy, but the real issue at hand is the impending convergence of souls. None of us were able to choose the meat casing that we use, but our souls do not care since they are eternal, and will be force merged into all other souls at the convergence. What are your thoughts on this? Thanks in advance!

At first, you confused me, but I see now what you mean. Nope, you are way off base. "White trash" originated in the south in the 19th century...it actually referred to shiftless, lazy, no-account white people. They were considered inferior to blacks, or to anyone else for that matter.

It has nothing to do with blacks or anyone of color.
