Yesterday I bought some stuff at the corner store

I never look at my change until I get home

I thought I was given a loonie and a twoonie

I looked again and the loonie was an American gold coloured dollar

Same wieght colour and so on of a loonie but an American coin with a woman holding a child on the back


When did this happen ?

It's called the Sacagawea (sa-ca-ga-wee-ah) dollar. It was introduced in the year 2000. It's still in circulation, but they stopped minting it in 2004.

Edit: The latest gold-colored dollar is the presidential $1 coin. It features America's past presidents individually.

Do you mean the Presidential Dollars, or the true gold coins? If you are talking about the Presidential Dollars, they still produce them along with the dollar bills. And if you are wondering about the early U.S gold coins, I believe they stopped making them because the gold in them rose higher than the face value.

that's a sacagawea. came out in 2000. there's a new one starting this year, i've got one. they will have all dead presidents on them. one a year i assume. 2007 has washington on it.
