It is determined by the quality of the man.
Some men instantly embrase the violent technique for manipulation while others have mastered other manipulation techniques that can be more dangerious.

No, I'd say violence is the last refuge of the knowledge less man.
If some one can think of another way to solve a situation or get a point across they will.
Violence is simply what people do when they can't devise another way to win, that is why it's not the last refuge of the defeated, as it is still possible to succeed in the use of violence.

No, but it's easier to get your hands on....isn't it. A man defeats himself, or allows others to make him feel defeated. Typically, the anger that arises out of this self inflicted condition must have a victim, and the 'defeated' find violence an easy ticket to ride. The brave rise above and work hard to find better and more permanent resolutions to problems. Ignorance isn't bliss, it's just ignorance. All things can be worked out, but violence is more seductive, the 'fast food' of the ego. Far more plentiful than self sacrifice, compassion and compromise.

No, I believe that it is the second to last refuge of a defeated man. The last being the acceptance of defeat.

Dealing with many defeated men, I can say that it is the second. Their own poop is actually their last refuge. It continues to surprise me, but when you take everything away from a person, and leave them with absolutely nothing, they will mess with their own poop. Maybe for vengeance, or boredom, or solace, but it's the only thing you can't take away from a person- and should they need it, everyone will use it.

Yes, I was once told that I would be taken out back and beat because I showed someone how to count the number of items in a crate by multiplying the rows and the columns. I replied that it would not make any difference because he would still need to learn how to count.

It can be and often is the first refuge of a man who lacks understanding, who is threatened by change, or who fears he is losing control.

sure, actual because of the fact of this our armed forces and government have been so incompetent as quickly as we bailed out the worldwide in worldwide conflict I, worldwide conflict 2, Korea, Vietnam, heck the progressive conflict, the Civil conflict. we ought to continually've merely enable the worldwide crumble, enable all people to be oppressed. different than ending Slavery, Fascism, Communism, Oppression, Genocide, Holocaust, conflict has in no way solved something, i assume. perhaps that's why Isaac Asimov wrote books rather of governing. it is extra relaxing to sit down down on the sideilnes and criiticize than it is to get out and get bloody making a metamorphosis interior the worldwide. perhaps sitting on your butt doing not something is the final shelter of the incompetent coward... hmmm?

Can't always talk a criminal out of crime.
Sometimes you have to hurt them.
Civilization rests on the compassionate control of overwhelming violence.
Nothing is quite so pathetic as a superior idea with inferior firepower.

I would have to agree with teacupn, to an extent. Except the fact that in many ways ignorance is bliss for people who never feel the urge to "see what's on the other side" they are content to wallow in their own crapulance! (I stold that from somewhere?)
