Many street lights have light sensors and therefore turn on when it gets dark enough. The light from the headlight fools the light sensor and the light turns off. It doesn't happen every time, but tends to happen when you're going up over a hill and your headlights are pointed upward.

People very often scoff at things paranormal, things they do not understand or have not seen. Sometimes it is because they are afraid.
Human beings are electro-chemical beings physically, and generally speaking, each individual uses no more than around 10% of their brain capacity. Even genius personages such as Einstein reportedly did not use all of his brain capacity.

When specific individuals DO manage to use more of their brain power, amazing things can happen. If things happen to you, keep concentrating on your abilities. They only get better with practice.

That being said, don't be delusional either, there can be alternate explanations for many things occurring; street lights CAN turn off automatically and do so at times that are pre-set. You can always go test yourself at different times on the same street light and see what happens.

Good luck with that.

I have known a couple of people in my lifetime who could do this.
I wish I were one of them because there are TWO bright streetlights across the street from my front yard that drive me nuts whenever my boyfriend and I want to go outside to star-gaze at night!

Like "rbcynical" I went through a period in my teens where I could not wear a watch without it dying - and THAT was waaaaay before watches with batteries - I am talking about the old-fashioned wind-up kind.

Does it just work with mercury-vapor lights, or ANY style of streetlight? Have you ever tried experimenting with this - like seeing how far from the light you have to be in order to effect it, or trying it with other types of lights?
Try experimenting with it, if you haven't already, and see if you can develop a degree of conscious control over it. It could be VERY interesting.

I've had street lights turn off as I pass under many times. Normally I'd say it's coincidence but it happens a bit too often.

It may have some to do with electro magnetics or just strange luck?

Street lights turn on and off automatically. It's part of the system, they are designed to do that.

Maybe it is just the right time for the street light to turn off, you know, it is automatic.

Electricity and energy don't work that way. Something else is going on. You or I may not understand what's going on, but it is definitely something else.

I can't wear a watch. I've bought expensive ones, cheap ones. No matter. I put it on and within a few hours its dead.
