I honestly think that he should be held responsible for what he did but they should really do more to put down racism in that area. Also it makes no sense to me that his bail was denied. What is your take on this issue?

Assault and battery would have been understandable(which are the charges now) the attempted murder charges intially used made absolutely no kind of sense. They should be held accountable for their actions but there should be equal justice under the law, not one set of rules for whites and another for blacks. 4 days before this incident that these teens are charged for, a fight broke out and a white teen broke a bottle on a black teens head and he was only charged as a juvenile with a misdemeanor.
I am not surprised he was denied bail. This same judge who presided over his case and who sentenced him to 15 years, is the same person who oversaw the bond hearing. No surprise at all.

I think people need to actually look into the issue instead of automatically being against something just because two foolish racists support it.
___
The idea was not for them to get off for most people, the common claim is that this was not attempted murder. I have to agree with this. You cant give a slap on the wrist for what is obviously a hate crime-punishment didnt even excede the school level; then try for maximum charges in the retiliation attack. This sort of behavior is sending a clear message that any behavior is ok for children on a school campus, as long as they dont hurt one another physically. Something that can be so easily seen as a threat (its hard to see the nooses any other way) cannot be glossed over.

This is a clear incidence of racism within the system. No, none of the 6 should be getting off. But murder charges are quite harsh considering the lead up to this, the wholly ineffective response, and the quick release of the beaten kid from the hospital.

Once you accept that it was not attempted murder, then these 16 year old boys should never have set foot in an adult jail. They never should have been held for this long. Their normal sentences would already be done were they charge for assault and battery which is what they were guilty of.

Mycheal Bell should be held responsible for his actions in an adequate manner. THERE IS NO WAY THAT ANYBODY CAN SAY THAT ITS NOT ABOUT RACE!!!! IT IS! Where are the white boys?? At home with mommy and daddy snickering! This whole matter was started by them. Charges were never brought against them and that's ridiculous. Those white boys should be in jail right along with Mychael. ISS my ***...Can somebody please tell me what it is, if it isn't racism??? Yall know had them boys been white and they beat up a black kid, there would be nothing said and those boys would somewhere chillin' right now...NOT IN JAIL. The boy was convicted by an ALL WHITE JURY. Coulda sworn that it was a jury of your peers??!!! These were not his peers, but a group of "ppl" conjuring up a way to keep him down. It's a damn shame. There is no reason why his bail should have been denied. What legitimate reason did they have??? Just being stupid and RACIST!!! Keep the black boy in jail and let the white boy roam free when he was the cause of the problem in the first place. I just pray for Bell's family and his safe return to them. And I hope the judge, the D.A, and anybody else keeping that young man from his justice get exactly what's coming to them. May God have mercy on their souls...

I'm still shocked by the outright blatant racism in America today and how a lot of white people I know want me to believe it doesn't exist, maybe they even believe or choose to believe that themselves.I mean they are not KKK members but seem to think all is well as far as race relations go in America. They deny or minimize any racism. This and other incidents proof how of they are and how bad it still is.

That's my take.Beating up someone is never justified but give me a break.A black student was beaten up by a group of white students first.Friday night, December 1st, a black student was beaten by a group of white students at a "white party".

Saturday, December 2nd, at the Gotta Go convenience store, the black student who was beaten up the night before, along with his friends, ran into one of the white students who beat him. A confrontation broke out and the white student went to his vehicle to get his shotgun. The black students wrestled the shotgun away from him and brought it to the police department and told them of the incident. The black students were arrested for stealing the gun. The white student was not charged.

Give me a break already. That's disgusting racism and it pains me to say only in America would the context of what happened there be so ignored

It's like 1960 in the deep south. The locals see nothing wrong with nooses on the tree that black kids aren't allowed to sit under. Funny, I was looking. Rosa Parks refused to go to the back of the bus in 1955! Here we are, in 2007, and we have nooses in trees called a prank. C'mon. So ironic, the kids sat under the tree anyway and Rosa Parks sat in the front of the bus anyway.

Earlier incidents. A white kid pointed a shotgun at the black kids and they were charged with theft of the gun for taking it away. Many more like that. Nothing has changed there at all.

The charge was too great, but to laugh this off as boys will be boys is wrong too.

Anytime 6 people attack 1 person, there should be punishment to fit the crime. If they had been 30 year old men the six would have all been in jail.

And believe me, Jackson and Sharpton wouldn't be there defending 6 white guys if they had attacked a black guy.

All kids involved should be charged for the crimes they committed: assault.
Race and skin color should not be made an issue; it only validates the kids' racism.

Even if somebody insults you repeatedly you have no right, legal or moral, to get 5 friends and beat them up.

The Jena 6 should be prosecuted.

The post below was interesting and I looked a bit deeper into the whole thing. They aren't exactly as squeaky clean and "kids" as they are being made out to be.
