My first thought was Empire Records, but that was 1995, not 80's. BTW, I love this movie. (Renee Zellwegger and Liv Tyler both in it)

In Pretty In Pink a couple of the kids work in a music store. But that is not the highligrt of the movie.

wasn't sure it was set in the 80's but i think it had john cusak and he was in a LOT of 80's movies.
