I'm OK with it. The question is, "Are Conservatives ready for it?" My answer to that is no. Never will be either.

I would jump and down for joy, and cheer myself hoarse!

Interestingly, not long ago I read a Gallup poll saying that nearly half of Americans say they would vote for an atheist.

I'd say we're not far from being ready.

It was surprising, considering how many believers there are here.

The idea that all atheists are immoral is dying.

I will now read the other answers. (You can't come to statistically sound conclusions based on what you get here, BTW.)

As long as this person wouldn't change any laws in an attempt to take religious freedoms away from those who believe, then I don't see a problem.

Luckily for us, though, freedom of religion is assured by the U.S. Constitution, so there's not a lot to worry about.

So, yes, I would vote for such a person, given I agree with their political policies.

"not me. i'd desire to in no way vote for somebody that places their faith above their electorate interior the type that Islam teaches." it particularly is precisely what's normally stated approximately Catholics. all of us comprehend Atheists dont have a risk. meaning that interestingly basically Protestant Christians have the ethical skill to cut up their relgion from their politics. Hmm...that would desire to propose that we've not have been given any religiously stimulated rules on the books, good? The mere seen a Protty doing such issues is absurd. basically Muslims, Catholics, Jews, Atheists, Hindus, Buddhists, etc place their faith above the best of the rustic.

I have never voted based on a person's religion.

Character is what is missing from past and current Presidents. I believe that character is much more important than how someone decides to worship, or not to worship.

What about a Bald Black Female Atheist

Well -- Article VI of the Constitution (before any of the Amendments) absolutely prohibited any religious test as a qualification for office.

So, anyone who supports and upholds the Constitution shouldn't care what religion someone is -- but that's a very small subset of reality.

Given a choice between another Bush clone, I'd vote for a militant black, gay atheist. It would be nice to have a president that didn't think imaginary people talked to him/her.
