Who is the greatest player per team?
Who are your thoughts on the greatest player per team? That means games played in that team's uniform. ie. Gretzky would not be considered the greatest St. Louis Blue.
Here's my votes, honourable mentions in brackets.
Let's do the West first. East will be in a different post.
Pacific:
Ducks - Selanne (Kariya, Giguere)
Stars/Northstars - Modano (Broten, Ciccarelli)
Kings - Robitaille (Gretzky, Dionne)
Coyotes/Jets - Hawerchuk (Selanne, Bobby Hull (WHA days), Steen)
Sharks - Nolan (Friesen, Nabokov, Thornton)
Northwest
Flames - MacInnis (Fleury, Niewendyk, Iginla, Nilsson)
Avs/Nordiques - Sakic (Forsberg, Stastny, Goulet)
Oilers - Gretkzy (Messier, Coffey)
Wild - Gaborik (Fernandez)
Canucks - Linden (Bure, Smyl)
Central
Blackhawks - Bobby Hull (Mikita, Savard, Roenick)
Blue Jackets - Nash (Whitney)
Wings - Howe, Yzerman
Predators - Timonen (Sullivan, Vokoun)
Blues - Brett Hull (Federko)

Anaheim - Teemu Selanne
- The Finnish Flash. He gets the nod over Kariya only because he led them to a Stanley Cup. If Selanne doesn't return after the lock-out, this distinction goes to Kariya (who still holds almost all the team's scoring records)
Calgary - Kent Nilsson
- I had to think about this one. as good as Fleury, Nieuwendyk, MacInnis, Reinhart, Iginla, Roberts are, Kent Nilsson was the best player to ever put on a Flames a uniform. The fact that he's the only guy in the team's top 20 in scoring to play less than 6 seasons (and he's 6th on the list) with a PPG of 1.32 (Nieuwendyk is 2nd at 1.07) and still holds several season records in Calgary says it all.
Chicago - Stan Mikita
- Bobby Hull had a booming shot and scored a lot of goals, Stan won all the faceoffs and the hardware (4 scoring titles!) Stan's name sits atop every record in the Chicago scoring book except goals...and he's 2nd there.
Colorado - Peter Stastny
- The top 5 seasons in franchise history belong to Peter Stastny. The highest assists per game average in franchise history belongs to Peter Stastny, the highest points per game average in franchise history belongs to Peter Stastny, and if you ask Joe Sakic, he'll tell you the greatest player in franchise history is Peter Stastny.............mind you, Peter would tell you it's Joe
Columbus - ???
Ray Whitney ranks first in most offensive categories. Rick Nash carries a lot of hype (but no substance yet), and the all-time scoring leader is David Vyborny. There is no such thing as a greatest Blue Jacket yet
Dallas - Mike Modano
- The Stars have had a lot of very good players in their franchise history. Brian Bellows (0.96), Bobby Smith (0.97), Mike Modano (0.99), Neal Broten (1.00) and Dino Ciccarelli (1.08) all have PPGs around 1.00.
Detroit - Gordie Howe
- no questions here, but if you pull a statistical analysis..........Yzerman beats him in every category!
Edmonton - Wayne Gretzky
- no questions here
Los Angeles - Wayne Gretzky
- He played long enough in LA to almost record 1000 points, and almost as long as he played in Edmonton. I found your choice of Robitaille over Dionne interesting. Dionne has Robitaille beat in every category except goals, and Robitaille required 160 more games than Dionne did to get to 7 extra goals. Dionne is one of the leagues greatest players, and he did it in LA. Robitaille may never see the Hall of Fame (His PPG is .01 LESS than Dino Ciccarelli and Glenn Anderson!)
Minnesota - Marian Gaborik
- no questions here
Nashville - Marek Zidlicky
- a team that has had such stars as Paul kariya and Peter Forsberg briefly, but nothing else. I chose Zidlicky because he's a better defenceman than Timonen both offensively and defensively. Steve Sullivan's 1.05PPG stands out, but only 150 games made me think otherwise
Phoenix - Dale Hawerchuk
- In their NHL days, there really is nobody else to consider....and in fact, in their Phoenix days, I had to fight hard to think of any stars that weren't washed up (Shane Doan averages 47 points every 80 games - hardly star material in my eyes)
St. Louis - Brett Hull
- Brett Hull was a great goal scorer and because of that narrowly beat out Bernie Federko. Not too many teams have the luxury of having 3 players with PPG averages above 1.1....along with Adam Oates, St. Louis has that.
San Jose - Joe Thornton
- take all the post-season all-star teams the Sharks have ever made (3), all the trophies the team has won (4), and the number is 7. Joe Thornton has 4 of those honours, and a ppg. that dwarfs any other Shark. If you did a fan poll in San Jose...........I think Mike Ricci would be the most popular Shark in history
Vancouver - Pavel Bure
- Pavel is in the top 5 of every major Canuck category, and 1st in points per game by 0.3....while playing less than half the games of Stan Smyl and Trevor Linden
Chihawks Dan............you are aware that William Wirtz has run the Chicago Black Hawks since 1966, and that the family has owned the team since 1954? I find it funny you use the term 'before' yet half the players you bring up are after, and in the case of the two I drafted for the team (Savard and Roenick) they were very much William Wirtz guys, Jeremy and William go sailing every summer

i'm going to easily supply you those I disagree with you on: NJ--Stevens NYI--Trottier (miles better than Bossy) NYR--invoice prepare dinner (Gilbert is great yet learn some background beforehand of the '60s) Ott--no person...blandest franchsie in Canada Tor--Charlie Conacher (Sittler is a overrated shaggy dog tale....Apps, Kennedy are better than Darrylllll). Fla--invoice Lindsay (he epitomized the grit that franchise had and Pavel is Vancouver and not something, toddler!) Wash--Langway (he made THAT franchise come alive...close 2nd Dale Hunter)
