Make sure it's off and simply apply some Lithium Grease like the type that comes in a grease gun. Wipe the excess off with a soft cloth but leave it well coated..Simple and Effective..........Don't use WD40 because it is too thin and will drip on top of your cars parked underneath the chain.You also don't need a special lubricant as others have told you..That is a gimmick and costs more.

You need to buy the lubrication that is especially formulated for your garage door chain. Take a look at the web site of the manufacturer of your particular model.

WD 40 will work if it is all you have in your house but there is better
bicycle chain lube works excellent and is easily availiable almost anywhere

You should use Roller Chain lube. You should be able to find it at any auto parts store.

w-d 40 oil (or my grandma used to use dish soap on squeaky doors)
