very good question. Israel has no right to be there. England decided at the end of WWII that they would impose Israel over top of the already existing state of Palestine. The Israeli's will tell you it's their homeland....yea, it was - TWO THOUSAND years ago. Maybe I should go to England and claim my right to live where my ancestors lived....I don't think that would fly, and that was only 300 years ago. I don't think North Carolina would be real happy if England gave NC back to the Cherokee.

NOTE: Brian, what do you have to do to establish a traditional home? The Palestinians have only lived there for 2000 YEARS! It was the Israeli's who got up and left centuries ago. So I guess Americans have no traditional home....we've only been here for 220 years.

Total misconception. Ever gone to a crowded theater and asked someone to scoot over so you & your friend could sit together? That's what happened. There was no Nation called Palestine, it was just the name of the region where a bunch of Jews and Arabs lived together. The UN ruling asked the Arabs to scoot over and let the Jews have a State. Most other nations considered this a fairly evenhanded decision, since the Jews were already living there and very much wanted a State of their own. It is hard for many Westerners to fully understand the depths of hatred and intolerance that pervades the Muslim world. It is NOT and overstatement to say the only regret many Muslims have regards the Holocaust, was that Hitler was unable to complete his dream of Jewish genocide. Jew hating is also critical to modern Islam, which needs to direct attention away from the sad reality that good Muslim governance died with the Ottomans. Middle East politics is confusing until you realize it is the GOAL of Muslim governments to maintain the victimhood of Palestinians for the purpose of blaming Muslim suffering on Jews in particular and infidels like Americans in general.

"Palestine" is a name given a territory occupied by the Romans and then by anyone who felt like it from Muslims to Crusaders just about everyone has conquered the perpetually and by definition "occupied" territories of Palestine.

Israel was set aside for the Jewish people by the Balfour Declaration of 1917. Prior to that it was occupied by the Ottoman Empire. Britain ran (occupied) the nation until an Israeli government could be properly defined, after WW2 and the Holocaust Britain could no longer politically maintain hold of Israel and had to release it as promised in.....1917.

During this time period the Jews in Palestine fought a conflict with the British that some call a war of terror and others call a revolutionary war because Britain refused to release the nation as required in the Balfour Declaration, essentially maintaining it as British Sovereign Soil in opposition to treaties signed with the rest of Europe and the Ottoman Empire (Middle East) after WW1.

Patrick brings up a great point that most people don't know. It wasnt called a World War for nothing. Many of the states, that are our enimies now, were allies of the Nazi's during WWII. The reason most p[eople don't hear about this in history class is because it was primarily the British troops who were fighting over there.
After the war was over, the misplaced Jewish population wanted their land back, and since that are was run by pro Nazi govenments during the war, they were made to give up the land. This is very very common out come in wars.

The land was partitioned in 1947 so that those areas that were settled primarily by Jews would become Israel. The Palestinians, encouraged by the other Arab states, rejected this, thinking that they would be able to eliminate the Jews from the area. It didn't work out so well for them. Too bad.

The Palestinians did not have a country. It was an area of land controlled by the British, an allied victor in WWII.

There was never a Palestine, but there was a Jewish Nation for thousands of years. Judea. Land of the Jews.

Read some books.

Sorry, you're not very well informed. There never was a place owned by the "Palestinians." The most recent owners of that area, prior to the British and Israel, were the Ottoman Turks who controlled the area from 1516 - 1917 CE.

The Palestinians were part of Jordan who supported the Nazis during the war. They lost. To the victors go the spoils. They had a chance to live peacefully alongside the Israelis in the new country and chose to go to war instead. Their loss. Now they have to live with their bad decisions and the decisions by their "supporters" in the Arab world to abandon them.

Palestinians were not even a "group" of people until 1947.... Do you read history?

Muslims are predominant in 41 countries, the Jews on the other hand only have one (tiny) country. Why cannot the "Palestinians" simply move to the other 41 Muslim country if they are so unhappy.

Besides all that......it happened over 50 yrs ago, Isreal is there and is going to be there for a long time.........Palestine is there and will continue to be there.....now they can keep griping and fighting or they can reach an agreement and go on....... all their lives would improve immensly if they did.
