Women tend to go for more cutsie stuff than men, and wife is a shorter word than husband, so less need to shorten it.

Hubby is shorter than husband and wifey is longer. Women do that as a term of endearment, some men say my ol lady and things like that.

Because "wifey" is a term used by men that signifies the woman is not his actual wife, but long-term or live -in girlfriend. My fiancee used to buy me "wife" cards for the holiday and add a y to the end of it!

I think it's linguistic -- people tend to prefer to shorten words rather than make them longer. Saying hubby shortens husband by two letters. Wifey, on the other hand, is one letter longer than wife.

My wife calls me "Hey You" nahh just kidding.
I'm not calling my wife "wifey" because it sounds a little goofy.
Guys don't want to sound like they are part of the Mickey Mouse Club..

Some say hubby, some don't...some say 'old man', 'baby', 'my man', etc...and guys have various terms they use for their wife...just common not to be too technical.
Hubby isn't too bad, but 'wifey' sounds ridiculous.

my husband calls me his wifey and he is in no way a rapper....i think we say hubby because it sounds cute and its shorter than saying husband all the time
