Poet: a toss up between T. S. Eliot and Percy Shelley, and novelist: H. P. Lovecraft
I love the Hymn to Intellectual Beauty and the Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock, and as HPL goes, I can't get enough of Cthulhu, but Re-animator and Cool Air are on the list as well. So is Neil Gaiman.

I am my favorite poet and novelist. Next to myself, I am torn between Homer and William Shakespeare as favorite poet. I like John M. McDonald for light reading. For more exotic novels, Lisa See has some about China.

my favorite writers are hunter thompson, stephen king and ray welch. I had the privelage of knowing this advertising legend before he died of cancer. I don't have a favorite poet but I have some favorite poems

2) gungha din
3) do not go gently
4) the raven
5) the charge of the light brigade

Maya Angelou (Just Give Me a Cool Drink of Water 'Fore I Diiie is her best book IMO) and Piers Anthony is an author I read every book by.
