One pump can drain a pool in 8 minutes. When a second pump is also used, the pool only takes 3 minutes to drain. How long would it take the second pump to drain the pool if it were the only pump in use?

The first pump drains 1/8 of the pool/minute
both drain 1/3 /minute so the second drains 1/3-1/8= 5/24/min
so it needs 24/5=4.8min to drain the pool

Post questions like this and I will boycott you. Put your question in the header where it belongs. Dont say "hey, I got a question". Didnt high school English teach you about attention grabbing headers?

You only bog down the system when countless people try to check the question out just to realize they cant answer it.

And of course best answer will be chosen. That isnt incentive. And if it wasnt true, no one would bother.

Besides, you will probably let so much time pass that your question will be put to vote... where some retard will vote for their own crappy answer and win. So your promise to award best answer to the best answer is meaningless if youre not going to pick it yourself.

And with this kind of post, I question the quality of even that judgment.
