I have two close friends who's mothers smoked pot and cigarettes while pregnant and they both have issues now. One of my friends muscles (including her brain) didn't form properly due to lack of oxygen. The other has autism. It happens. What is wrong with you. You do not deserve to be a mother if you think of yourself before your child. I could not even imagine making my 9 month old smoke. That is exactly what you are doing with your unborn. You are giving him/her a cigarette and telling them to inhale deeply! Grow up.

At 5 months you've already done permanent damage to your child from smoking. Stopping now will help the child not to get sick as often, but I'm sorry to say it will probably develop asthma even if you don't smoke due to smoking during your first trimester.
The time that a baby is most vulnerable to outside damage is the first three months of pregnancy.
Also, you'll be glad to know that you may have contributed to your GRANDCHILDREN getting asthma. Recent studies indicate that if a woman smokes, she passes bad genes not only to her children but also to her grandchildren. So even if a mom doesn't smoke, if her mother did, her children will likely have asthma.

Had plenty of friends with kids that came out perfect after smoking pot during pregnancy. One friend that smoked cigs throughout- her baby has asthma and was born 5lbs at full term.
You do the math.
I'm not taking chances with either. Though I've never smoked cigs. They both work by cutting off the O2 so they both take away from the baby. That's why you can get short-term same effect by putting a bag over your face... Think about it!

TAlk to your doc. If you can do nicotine patches, even for just the pregnancy, that will spare the baby most of the *other* chemicals in a cigarette.
http://www.motherisk.org/women/updatesDetail.jsp?content_id=336
discusses pot for the pre-born
"might have subtle negative effects on neurobehavioural outcomes, including sleep disturbances, impaired visual problem solving, hyperactivity, impassivity, inattention, and increased delinquency"
http://www.personalsolutionsinc.org/prenatal.html
says both carbon monoxide (one of those other chemicals) "and nicotine in tobacco . . . can cause problems with the baby's growth and development before birth

Both are bad BUT because you ask which is worse...
I believe cigarettes are worse because of all the additives and crap in it. Pot is more natural (but beware of pesticides - this depends on the grade). I would stick with extremely high quality, pesticide free stuff and smoke it SPARINGLY.
Again, as a disclaimer, BOTH are bad.
Hope this helps. :)

Smoking while pregnant....maybe someday someone should put a warning on the packages of cigarettes that says "You are a dumb *** if you smoke while pregnant".
And to even think of smoking pot...might as well find out the schedule for the short bus right now, cause your kid is going to be mentally defecient.

my best friends mom smoked with her, & shes fine. she's really smart in fact. but her mom doesnt smoke often. maybe one a day, but not everyday. she didn't smoke with my friends brother, & hes the dumb one; but that could be pure irony. however i wouldn't smoke either while pregnant unless you wanted a child with a birth defect.
