I would say that depends upon what you love. For instance, the love of money is the root of all evil, yet money is an important commodity in life. It is difficult, if not impossible, to live without it.
Altruistic love might be very important in life, but I am not sure it exists. Perhaps "mother love" comes closest, but it can be tragically absent sometimes.
One can love deeply, yet find that, with passing time, this love withers away and dies. How important is that? And if procreation is the most important thing in life, one could say that sex is more important than love, because one doesn't have to be in love to have children.
I've talked myself in a corner, so I have to admit I don't know what is the most important thing in life. I think it is good health, because without that, everything else fades into the distance.

The real problem here is the English language. We put everything from base biological actions to the noblest actions that any human ever did into that one word. Love has so many meanings that almost any action fits. The aspect of love that I think is most important is that feeling we believe that the mother had in "leave it to beaver" for her son. Greater love has no man than to lay down his life for his friend. Again English is the problem. Our pronouns related to people have male or female built in and it is not proper to use the neutral versions.
There is a community of people that have come into my life. My Parents are now gone but my Brothers and sisters there spouses, children and grandchildren, My wife and daughters and their Husbands and children are all part of that community. I have worked at the same company for 30 years and a large number of people have become part of my life. I care about all these people. OK there is one nephew that I would be happy to never see again but the rest are an important part of my life.

I don't think any one thing is the most important in life. I do however think that love is very important.

Hmmm... tricky question. I mean, the most important thing to one person is not the most important thing to another... that is to say that your question is realtive to the perspective of the answerer.
Thus, I would say that love is the most important thing... but I define love to be something more than sex. Love of your fellow man, your neighbor, love of God, love for yourself, animals... a heart full of love is the most important. Alongside this would be the thought to love one woman with all the passion that you possess... this gives life value. Thus it becomes important.
Without defined values you have no purpose to exist and invariably importance is irrelevant.

The most important thing in life is living it in such a way as to make it worth living. This could be through love to some but through other means to others.

Well. I think it can be anything. The most important thing in life is usually the thing you need most at that point of your life. It can be health if you are sick, it can be love if you are lonely. It can be a decent job if you haven't got one. It can also be an umbrella in a pouring rain, or a glass of water... or that last hug with your mum...the most important thing in life is always much smaller and much closer to us then we think...

The most important thing in life is to learn to love yourself. Only then can you truly love others.

Says who?
I think there are more important things in life than love.... you can't always love everyone and everything.
Compromise.
Meeting people half way.
Self-acceptance.
Tolerance.
RESPECT (for self & others)
TRYING your best, the effort you make.
Loyality.
Love is a bonus and a gift, but its not necessary...
