The Exorcist and not because of the cheesy special effects but because of the creepy atmosphere, photography, music and all of the elements are there to creep you out.
The screaming profanities and so forth are kind of stupid by today's standards but there is nothing like the atmosphere that this movie creates. Few have ever created such a stifling atmosphere and it still can give you the creeps on a dark rainy night. For sheer frills and scares this one is my favorite of all time and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

The Princess Bride, great stars, great comedy, but people still die and stuff blows up without all the cursing and gratuitous sex.

Casablanca. Just can't beat Bogie for the "cool factor" in that film.
